Five Farm Women To Be Honored (1930)
Tennessee will pay tribute to its farm women for the third time when five rural women chosen from among 28 outstanding candidates for the honor, are recognized as master farm homemakers at the University of Tennessee Jan. 29. Women who will receive the honor this year are Mrs. J.B. TAYLOR, Clevelend, Bradley County; Mrs. Lettie M. GALLAHER, Roane County; Mrs. W.W. SHIPLEY, Sullivan County; Mrs. Hal Burton WALKER, Greene County; Mrs. R.B. PRIESTLEY, Weakley County. The annual recognition, sponsored by the Farmer’s Wife, National farm womens’ magazine, with the cooperation of the home demonstration agents of the agricultural extension service, University of Tennessee, will be one of the features of the annual farm women’s short course at the University Jan. 27 to Feb. 1. Each candidate was nominated by five neighbors. Then she answered more than 500 questions concerning her home, health of the family, management of time and money, family relationship, child training, community activities, etc. Miss Bess M. ROWE, of the Farmer’s Wife, will award the master farm homemaker titles and cold pins.
