Deaths in the State Senate (1871)

The State Senate

When the legislature meets, on the first Monday in October, the Senate, although, when full, consisting of twenty-five members, will be organized with only twenty-three members – two death having occurred among the members elect to that body, since the election.  Col. Thos. H. PEEBLES, Senator elect from Maury, died soon after the election, and now Col. Horace RICE, Senator elect from Decatur and Henderson, is added to the list.  He died last Monday morning, at his residence in Lexington.  The vacancies will be filled after the legislature meets, and the Governor is officially notified of their death.
