Col. STEPHENS Moves to California (1875)
Col. Wm. H. STEPHENS and his family started from this city on Thursday morning for their new home in California. It was highly fitting that Jackson, the home of his early manhood and triumphs, the spot where his marriage vows were uttered, and the birth place of his children, should be the point around which to gather his family in a last farewell to old friends and ties before departing for a new and untried life in a distant land. To him and to his we waft the benisons of a friendly heart beaming with the hope that their future lives may be as bright as the kindly skies of the golden State, and the setting as beautiful as the meeting of sun and waves in the ocean of the West.
