Cholera Update from Memphis (1866)
On last Tuesday there were sixty-two deaths in Memphis from cholera. We are credibly informed that the disease is on the decrease now, and, it is thought, should the good weather which Memphians are now enjoying hold on for a few days longer, that the disease will almost if not entirely disappear in a short time. We earnestly hope that our big sister will be spared further ravages, and that good health may again nestle on her fair proportions. Do not believe one half of the absurd stories that are told about the epidemic in Memphis. The city papers publish the only reliable information concerning the number of cholera victims, and sixty-two is the highest number yet officially reported for any given 24 hours.
