Cholera in Memphis (1866)
There was a considerable decrease in the number of white persons who had died from cholera during the twenty-four hours previous to five o’clock last evening, as reported at the office of the sanitary police. Only two fatal cases of white persons were reported, and fourteen colored. Five white persons, and six colored were sent to Hospital, and three white persons, and two Negroes were under treatment at their own homes. The above shows a great decrease in the number of cases of white cholera patients and now that the infected districts are under the surveillance of the Board of Health sanitary police force, a corresponding decrease may be soon looked for among the negro population.
