BRITTON, (Major) – (d. 1872)
Death of Major Britton.
This gentleman died at Greeneville, in this State, on the morning of the 5th instant, after an illness of several months. A correspondent writing the fact to the Knoxville Chronicle, says:
Major Britton was a member of the Tennessee Legislature in 1861 and Was Attorney General for the first Judicial Circuit for several years immediately after the close of the late war, and was a member of the late Constitutional Convention, to which position he was elected by a large majority over the late Thos. D. Arnold. He was probably the most eloquent and forcible jury lawyer in East Tennessee, and almost universally beloved by the people. At the time of his death he was about 49 years of age.
