Bloody Fight (1894)

Knxoville, Sept. 29 – A bloody fight occurred between two prisoners in the Knox County jail this afternoon, in which John STANLEY, a murderer now under sentence of death, was stabbed four times by John ROGERS, an incendiary from Blount County.

The prisoners had been turned loose in the corridor between the cells for exercise when a quarrel came up over a cup of water and STANLEY run his hand in his pocket, as if to draw a weapon, upon which ROGERS drew a rusty barlow and began stabbing him and would have killed him but for the interference of the prisoners.  STANLEY is the murderer of the old SMODDERLY couple last April, in Union County.
