Metropolitan Police Bill Passed (1866)
The Metropolitan Police Bill has passed both houses of the Legislature, and is now a law. Memphis, Nashville and Chattanooga fall under its provisions. The bill takes the entire police control of the above cities out of the hands of the municipal authorities and vest it in commissioners to be appointed by the Governor. Room for the radicals–room for the thieves!
