LEA, J.L. of Ripley, Shot (1875)
Ripley News: J.L. LEA, of Fulton, was on last Thursday shot, and, from all accounts, dangerously wounded, by one of his tenants named NEVINS. We understand that Mr. LEA had a deed of trust on NEVINS‘ horse, which horse NEVINS was trying to get away. Mr. LEA followed, and overtook him within a few miles of Fulton, and was taking him back when unexpectedly NEVINS drew a pistol and shot, the ball entering a little below the back of the left ear, lodging in the head of Mr. LEA, who immediately fell from his horse, NEVINS, with his horse, making off. A force is in pursuit of NEVINS and it is to be hoped that he will be captured.
