G W MOORE GRAND ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC POST #81
LEXINGTON, TN, 1889-1893

George W Moore, a 45 year old resident of Henderson Co, Tennessee, enlisted for one year as a corporal in the 7^th Tennessee Cavalry in 1862.  When his one year enlistment ended he re-enlisted, this time in Co A.  In 1864 Moore received an appointment from Tennessee Governor Andrew Johnson as the captain of Co A.  Captured with the regiment at Union City, TN on March 24, 1864, he spent time in officers’ prisons in the southeast until released on March 1, 1865.  Moore returned to the regiment and served as acting colonel during the illness of Colonel Hawkins in 1865, mustering out with the regiment on August 9, 1865.  He appears to have died in October 1887.  Moore is believed buried in the Shady Grove Cemetery in Hardin Co, TN without a marker.

General Orders generally (but not always) means the person was discharged with the regiment at the end of the war.

Expiration of Term generally means that they served their one or three year enlistment.

The numbers at the end of each entry is the number of the veteran on the GAR list.

Numbers at the end of entries give the position on the records.  Numbers 26-30, 43-48 and 50 were blank.
