Davis,\r\nI now set down to inform you that we are well and hope that \r\nthis lines will find you well. We received your letter the \r\n8th of November, 1838 and was glad to hear from you but had \r\nrather seen you.\r\n\r\nWe have gotten in our corn and I think with care, we shall \r\nhave enough to do us as dry as it was.\r\n\r\nFather and mother did not go to North Carolina but says they \r\nwill go next summer. Uncle Edward Montgomery sent us a leter \r\nand stated that they was all willing for an equal division. \r\n\r\nI must tell you the death of Mr. Kennon who died the 8th day of September.\r\nYou must come home and I wil go with you to Black Hawk. \r\nW. L.
