{"id":1877,"date":"2026-01-15T09:32:49","date_gmt":"2026-01-15T15:32:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/haywood\/?p=1877"},"modified":"2026-01-15T09:32:49","modified_gmt":"2026-01-15T15:32:49","slug":"eurekaton-community","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/haywood\/eurekaton-community\/","title":{"rendered":"Eurekaton Community"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>First called Eureka, the community was later named Eurekaton because another town in Tennessee was already named Eureka.<\/p>\n<p>The area was settled in the 1830&#8217;s and 40&#8217;s by families from Virginia:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Howse, Jeter, Jones, Mason, Miller, Newsum, Short, Stoots, Stuart, and Wilkes.<\/li>\n<li>From North Carolina came the&nbsp;Etheridge, Givson, and&nbsp;Nicholson&nbsp;families.<\/li>\n<li>The&nbsp;Craig&#8217;s&nbsp;and Griffin&#8217;s migrated from East Tennessee, and&nbsp;Hilliard&#8217;s&nbsp;came from both South Carolina and Alabama.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">The Post Office is <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif;\">located in Fletcher T. Seymour&#8217;s store.&nbsp; <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif;\">Mr. Stott who worked in the store also went to Dancyville once a week to pick up the mail which only arrived at Dancyville once a week.&nbsp; <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif;\">Others who ran the store after Mr. Seymour were Ben&nbsp;Stuart, Hunter&nbsp;Stuart&nbsp;and Frank&nbsp;Barden.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The doctors at Eurekton were Dr. Seymour, Dr. Joseph T. Seymour, Dr. Joseph Nelson, and Dr. Thomas K.
