Contributed by Kelly Russell, Friday, March 26, 1999 in honor of his mother,
Willie Elizabeth Elder Russell, and grandmother, Hattie Lee Jones, who is in the picture.

Hattie Lee Jones was born Vaughn or Vaughan, 1898 in Missouri. Her mother and brother died in 1901 the same day. Her father disappeared after the funeral. Jonas (Junny) Webb took her to Tenn. Hattie Lee lived with 4 or 5 different people, but she was always unhappy so Jonas Webb would find some where else to place her. Finally she was placed with an Aunt, in Jones Station. This Aunt was poor and had many children. Mrs. Laura and Ned Jones wanted children so she went to live with them in 1905. She was very happy there. Mrs. Laura and Ned Jones adopted her in 1906 and petitioned the court to change her name from Vaughn to Jones. Jonas Webb and Albert Webb visited her in Louisiana in 1925 on there way to Texas. Hattie Lee Jones married in 1912 Guy Lawrence Elder, who was a lumberman. They moved to Arkansas after there first child was born, and later they moved to Louisiana. They had several daughters and one son. My Grandfather, Guy Elder, died November 1948 and my grandmother, Hattie Lee, died November 1969. My mother, Willie Elezabeth Elder Russell, and grandmother frequently discussed her early life and she knew very little about her real family. She was very positive that Jonas was her uncle. Perhaps because of her early tragedy of loosing all of her family in one day, and her early unhappiness she probably didn’t want to remember. I am in hopes someone can help me find my roots. Kelly
