{"id":770,"date":"2014-01-27T19:27:18","date_gmt":"2014-01-28T00:27:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/hawkins\/?p=770"},"modified":"2014-01-29T22:34:31","modified_gmt":"2014-01-30T03:34:31","slug":"herrel-john-will","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/hawkins\/herrel-john-will\/","title":{"rendered":"Will of John Herrel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Will Book __, Page 240<br \/>\nSeptember 9, 1815<\/p>\n<p>In the Name of God, Amen.<\/p>\n<p>I, <b>John Herrel<\/b> of the County of Hawkins and State of Tennessee, being of sound mind and memory but being old and knowing the frailty of man and the uncertainty of this life, do make and ordain this my last Will &amp; Testament in writing in manner and form as followeth:<\/p>\n<p>That after recommending my soul to God and my body to the dust from whence it came, to be buried in a plain manner after my decease. And concerning such worldly goods as it has pleased God to bestow on me, I dispose of them in the following manner:<\/p>\n<p>First. I desire my funeral charges to be paid out of my estate, and my debts to be paid in like manner.<\/p>\n<p>Item 1. I give unto my daughter <b>Polly<\/b> ten dollars and all my housegoods at my wife&#8217;s death.<\/p>\n<p>Item 2. I do allow all the rest of my property including negroes to be sold at the discretion of my Executors which will hereafter nominate, and the moneys when collected divided between my daughters <b>Sally Norman, Tish North, Lidy Comes<\/b> and <b>Polly Herrel.<\/b> (<b>Frank<\/b> and <b>Samuel Woods <\/b>my grandsons) between the two to have an equal part with my daughters which I have named and my sons <b>Enock Herrel<\/b> and <b>John Herrel<\/b> &amp; my daughters <b>Betsy Snark<\/b> and <b>Winney Parrott <\/b>I have heretofore given their shares &#8212; the boys in the way of the land, and the girls in a negro apiece which I hope they will be content with,<\/p>\n<p>And I do appoint <b>John Harrel<\/b> and <b>Jacob Miller<\/b> Executors of this my last Will and Testament in writing, and do by these presents revoke, disannul and make void every other will or wills by me made.<\/p>\n<p>In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal, This ninth day of September, one thousand Eight hundred and fifteen.<\/p>\n<p><b>John<\/b> [<em>X<\/em>]<b> Harrel <\/b>(ELS) (his mark)<\/p>\n<p>Signed, sealed published &amp; declared by <b>John Harrel<\/b> to b his last Will and Testament in writing in presence of us who was subscribing witnesses thereto.<\/p>\n<p><b>David Henshan<\/b> (?)<br \/>\n<b>Jesse McWilliams<br \/>\nJohn Grove<br \/>\n<\/b><b>L.
