{"id":685,"date":"2014-01-27T02:36:19","date_gmt":"2014-01-27T07:36:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/hawkins\/?p=685"},"modified":"2014-01-29T22:44:55","modified_gmt":"2014-01-30T03:44:55","slug":"barrett-hugh-will","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/hawkins\/barrett-hugh-will\/","title":{"rendered":"Will of Hugh Barrett"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Will Book __, Page 69<br \/>\nAugust 26, 1857<br \/>\nProven: May Term, 1860<\/p>\n<p>I, <b>Hugh Barrett<\/b> of the County of Hawkins and State of Tennessee, being of sound and disposing mind and memory do make, ordain and publish this my last will and testament hereby revoking and make void all other wills by me at any time made.<\/p>\n<p>First. It is my wish and desire that my funeral expenses be paid as soon after my death as practicable out of the first money that may come into the hands of my Executor.<\/p>\n<p>Second. It is my wish and desire that all my just debts be paid and my property whatever may be left, disposed of as follows: To my son, <b>John Nelson Barrett<\/b>, I will and bequeath one half of my landed estate, being half of the farm whereon I now live including the house and other buildings, the farm to be divided agreeable to quantity and quality, and further that my wife <b>Maria <\/b>shall have a maintenance of life estate in said half of farm so willed to my son <b>John Nelson Barrett,<\/b> in case she lives a widow, but in case she marries, her maintenance of life estate in said parcel of land to be at an end and descend to my son <b>John<\/b> immediately.<\/p>\n<p>And further, my son <b>John Nelson Barrett <\/b>shall pay to his sister <b>Elizabeth Laurie Barrett <\/b>$150.00 in good property or money to be paid to her when she arrives at the age of 21 years. <b>John, Elizabeth<\/b> and their mother to live on said piece of land. My wife <b>Maria<\/b>, mother of <b>John <\/b>and <b>Elizabeth<\/b>, to have management and control of said piece of land in case she lives a widow until <b>John<\/b> becomes 21 years old at which time he is to have control of the place.<\/p>\n<p>The balance of farm, being the other half, I will and bequeath to my two sons <b>William<\/b> and <b>Thomas<\/b>, to be equally divided between them.<\/p>\n<p>Thirdly. It is my wish and desire that my movable property, whatever I may die possessed of, shall be sold and the proceeds divided as follows: To my two daughters, <b>Sally<\/b> and <b>Orlena<\/b>, I will $25.00 each, and the balance, whatever it may be, equally divided between my five daughters, <b>Matilda, Mary, Louisa, Sally <\/b>and <b>Orlena.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Fourthly. I appoint my brother, <b>Thomas T. Barrett,<\/b> my Executor of this my last Will and Testament.<\/p>\n<p>In testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal.
