Joseph eloped with <strong>Mary Amis<\/strong>, daughter of Thomas, in 1786. The couple settled on <strong>Crockett<\/strong>&#8216;s Creek. The elopement occurred while <strong>Thomas Amis<\/strong> was serving in the North Carolina Legislature. Joseph gave the land for Rogersville to be established.
