{"id":1447,"date":"2014-02-08T23:46:36","date_gmt":"2014-01-26T07:01:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/hawkins\/?p=1447"},"modified":"2014-02-08T23:50:56","modified_gmt":"2014-02-09T04:50:56","slug":"jackson-thomas-will","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/hawkins\/jackson-thomas-will\/","title":{"rendered":"Will of Thomas Jackson"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-size: 18px;line-height: 24px\">Will Book __, Page 266<\/p>\n<p>In the Name of God, Amen.<\/p>\n<p>I <b>Thomas Jackson<\/b> of Hawkins County in the State of Tennessee, being of sound mind, do make this my will &amp; desire that my Estate be divided in the following manner.<\/p>\n<p>That my sons <b>Robert <\/b>and <b>James<\/b> have their maintenance off the plantation where I now live until they come of age<\/p>\n<p>and that my eldest son <b>Joseph S. Jackson<\/b> have all my land in Hawkins County, the farming utensils and household furniture, with a negro boy named <b>Berry <\/b>and the horses to be equally divided among all my children.<\/p>\n<p>My land in Overton and on Big Lick Creek in West Tennessee to be equally divided between my children <b>James, Robert <\/b>and <b>Bethunia.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>My daughter is to have the negro woman named <b>Minta<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p><b>James M. Jackson<\/b> is to have a negro boy named <b>Sam<\/b>, and <b>Robert<\/b> is to have the boy named <b>Sandy<\/b>,<\/p>\n<p>and as there is notes in my desk to the amount of $2,700.00, I desire that my debts may first be paid then the the balance to be equally divided among all my children,<\/p>\n<p>and as my son <b>Joseph<\/b> is absent from home, it is my desire that my sons <b>James<\/b> and <b>Robert <\/b>continue to live on my plantation in Hawkins County,<\/p>\n<p>and should <b>Joseph<\/b> die before he comes home, then my Estate in Hawkins County is to be equally divided between <b>James <\/b>and <b>Robert<\/b> and in that case, <b>Joe<\/b> and <b>Eve<\/b> is to be the property of <b>Bethunia H. Jackson<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>But should <b>Joe<\/b> return, then them old negroes may become the property of that child who will pay for them dividing the value equally among them, and <b>Berry<\/b> also should <b>Joe<\/b> die before he comes home &#8212; he being yet under age.<\/p>\n<p>I appoint <b>M. Neil<\/b> and <b>George Hale<\/b> my attornies to see this my will Executed and to them I join my son<b> James M.
