{"id":1421,"date":"2014-02-08T22:56:32","date_gmt":"2014-01-26T07:01:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/hawkins\/?p=1421"},"modified":"2014-02-08T22:58:36","modified_gmt":"2014-02-09T03:58:36","slug":"henderson-samuel-will","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/hawkins\/henderson-samuel-will\/","title":{"rendered":"Will of Samuel Henderson"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-size: 18px;line-height: 24px\">Will Book __, Page 254<br \/>\nProven: May Term, 1843<\/p>\n<p>In the Name of God Amen.<\/p>\n<p>I <b>Samuel Henderson <\/b>of the County of Hawkins and State of Tennessee, being weak in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory do make and publish this my last Will &amp; Testament in manner and form following that is to say.<\/p>\n<p>First, I give and bequeath unto my wife the tract of land I reside on during her natural life; after her death it is to go to my sons <b>Pleasant<\/b> and <b>Samuel Henderson:<\/b> one bay mare, one black and one brown mare.<\/p>\n<p>I bequeath to my wife also my entire stock of hogs.<\/p>\n<p>It is my will that my tract of land in the Western District be sold on a twelve-month credit and all the proceeds of sale except $300.00 be divided between my three daughters <b>Betsy, Lucinda<\/b> and <b>Amanda<\/b>, and the $300.00 named above to go to my three grand children, i.e. <b>Thomas George<\/b> and <b>William<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>My land on the south side of the river, about 40 acres to be sold on twelve-month credit and my other four grand children, <b>Milly, Balldy, Samuel <\/b>&amp; <b>John <\/b>to have $100.00 each, and the remainder to go to my three daughters named, equally divided my wife to have two of the plows, two axes, four hoes, three milk cows &amp; yoke of oxen.<\/p>\n<p>The rest of my farming tools and waggon and cattle is to be sold, also my bay colt and sorrel horse and proceeds divided equally between my sons <b>Pleasant<\/b> and <b>Samuel L. Henderson<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>My daughter <b>Lucinda<\/b> is to have a sorrel horse named Jim.<\/p>\n<p>My entire stock of sheep to go to my wife during her lifetime, then to be equally divided between all my children.<\/p>\n<p>My four negroes, <b>Sally, Minne, Gibb,<\/b> and<b> Pack<\/b> to go to my wife that she may dispose of as she chooses, so they are left among my children, but according to her own notion.<\/p>\n<p>I wish my son <b>Samuel L. <\/b>to collect a debt (from each of the following): <b>David Lyons, Jr.<\/b>,<b> Thomas Taylor<\/b>,<b> John McWilliams<\/b>,<b> Orville Bradley<\/b>,<b> <\/b>and<b> Jacob Burris<\/b> and to account for same on final settlement with <b>Pleasant Henderson<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>My just debt to be paid out of any money on hand, and if there is a surplus it is to go to my wife.<\/p>\n<p>I bequeath to my daughter <b>Amanda<\/b> one boy per name of <b>Bill<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>All the grain of every kind to be left for use of the family.<\/p>\n<p>I do hereby appoint <b>Pleasant<\/b> and <b>Samuel L. Henderson <\/b>Executors of this my last Will &amp; Testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me made.<\/p>\n<p>In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 30th of March, 1843.<\/p>\n<p><b>Samuel<\/b> [<span style=\"font-style: italic\">X<\/span>] <b>Henderson <\/b>(seal) (his mark)<\/p>\n<p>Signed sealed published and declared by the above named <b>Samuel Henderson<\/b> to be his last will in the presence of us who have subscribed our names as witnesses in the presence of the Testator.<\/p>\n<p><b>Robert Johnson<br \/>\nJoshua Phipps<br \/>\nWilliam F.
