{"id":1112,"date":"2014-01-31T22:56:44","date_gmt":"2014-02-01T03:56:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/hawkins\/?p=1112"},"modified":"2014-01-31T22:56:44","modified_gmt":"2014-02-01T03:56:44","slug":"taylor-thomas-will","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/hawkins\/taylor-thomas-will\/","title":{"rendered":"Will of Thomas Taylor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Book 2, Page 465<\/p>\n<p>In the Name of God, Amen.<\/p>\n<p>I <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Thomas Taylor<\/span> of the State of Tennessee, now residing in Hawkins County, being much afflicted in body but yet in perfect mind and memory, thanks be to God for it.<\/p>\n<p>Calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last Will &amp; Testament.<\/p>\n<p>That is to say, Principally and first of all. I do give and recommend my soul to God who gave it, and my body I recommend to the earth, to be buried in a decent manner, agreeable to the Christian rule, but at the general resurrection, I shall receive the same again by the power of God.<\/p>\n<p>And as touching such worldly Estates wherewith it has pleased (God) to bestow on me in this life, I do give, devise and dispose of in the following manner.<\/p>\n<p>First. I recommend all my just debts be paid.<\/p>\n<p>Secondly. I recommend all my perishable property to be sold and equally divided in my family of boys and girls, one black cow excepted, and allowed for <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Catrena Brown<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Thirdly. I recommend my land to be for the use of my son <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">James Taylor<\/span> for five years, and he is to scool <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Beckey<\/span> and <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Ann<\/span> to read and write their name, and to keep the plantation in repair, and at the expiration of five years to be sold and equally divided between <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">John<\/span>, <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Thomas<\/span>, <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">James<\/span> and <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Wilson Taylor<\/span>, and the said sons to pay <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Becky<\/span> and <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Ann<\/span> $150.00 each that is to come out of the price of the land, either in money or in property.<\/p>\n<p>I allow <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Joseph Long<\/span>&#8216;s note 100 dollars, <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">William Logan<\/span>&#8216;s note 50 dollars and <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Andrew Forgey<\/span>&#8216;s note to be collected by my Executors and give to suites of clothes to <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Beckey<\/span> and two to <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Ann<\/span>, at the age of 15 years.<\/p>\n<p>And I do constitute my sons <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Thomas<\/span> and <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">James<\/span> to be my Executors.<\/p>\n<p>And I do hereby disallow, revoke and utterly disannul all quiths, and every Testament that mite have been heretofore been made, and I do hereby ratify and confirm this to be my last Will &amp; Testament.<\/p>\n<p>In witness whereof I have set my hand and seal This 26th day of February, 1813.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Thomas Taylor<\/span> (seal)<\/p>\n<p>Signed, sealed, published and delivered by the said <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Thomas Taylor<\/span> to be his last Will &amp; Testament in the presence of us who in his presence and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names.<\/p>\n<p>Test.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\"> John Long<br \/>\nJames Y. Long\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>N.B. That part of my will saying that <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">James Taylor<\/span> is to live on my plantation five years is done away and the land is to be sold.
