HORNER, CHATMAN, WATTS
Trying to locate a marriage record for ANDERSON WATTS and HESTER CHATMAN. Anderson’s full name was Andrew Anderson Watts but he used the “Anderson”. He was born ab 1818 in Virginia and Hester ab 1820 in Tennessee. They would have married circa 1835-1837, probably in Hawkins, Grainger or Jefferson County. They lived in District 13 Hawkins County, which became a part of Hamblen County in 1870, in and around the Russellville, Bull’s Gap, Whitesburg area. I need the PARENTS of Hester. Some say she was a HORNER and might be from the WILLIAM HORNER family of Jefferson, Hamblen and Hawkins County area. William Horner I believe was connected with the Bent Creek Church and many of my family are buried there. The Watts’ and Horners lived close to each other. Their name quite often appeared together. Can anyone help me. In all my research on the WATTS’ from East Tennessee and Middle Tennessee I have never run across the name CHATMAN. Thanks. Carolyn E. SMITH
If anyone can help me with this family mystery, I would appreciate it. According to our records, Sarah or Sallie SMITH lived in Hawkins Co. between 1825 and 1837 and had the following children there: Virginia SMITH (1825), Thomas SMITH (1827), Campbell SMITH (1829), Mary Ann (Polly) SMITH (1831), Nancy SMITH (1834), and Bryant SMITH (1837). We have no record of her being married, as SMITH is her maiden name. Her parents, Bryant and Dolly may have also been in the area, as all of these Smiths moved to Alabama sometime before 1843. I am at a loss as to how to find this family. The 1840 census that I have reviewed does not show any of these names, so they may have moved by this time. Any suggestions? Thank you.
