Roadman, Richardson, Ellis, Lee
Seeking the sister or her children or other relatives of Laura LEE ROADMAN. Maiden name Laura Lee b. 8 Feb 1892 and married Winifred E. Roadman. They did not have children. The Roadmans lived in Knoxville for long time where Mr. Roadman was employed in a clothing store. Laura Lee Roadman’s sister lived in Church Hill and could still be living there. Winfred died 1945 and Laura 1970. Both are buried in the Richardson plot of Liberty Hill. Winfred was the son of Nancy Jane Richardson Roadman and Nancy was the daughter of John Richardson 1819-1909 and Elizabeth Ellis Richardson 1824-1899. Nancy Jane was my great aunt and very close to my father, Robert Roadman Richardson. I am desperately seeking the parents of John (1819) Richardson. No family member even knows their given names. It is my understanding that Laura lived in Church Hill after Winfred’s death, maybe with her sister. I was also told that Winfred was interested in genealogy. I can remember visiting their home as a child and he showed us a receipt (IOU) from the Confederate Army for bacon sold to CSA by his grandfather. (If it had been the Federals they wouldn’t have given him the IOU.) I dream of the possibility that Laura’s sister is still living or that her family might have some documentation passed on by Winfred. I found Winfred’s nephew and nieces in Florida and have visited with them. Thank you so much for any help. Charles Ray Richardson, 3732 Eakley Court, Raleigh, NC 27606 919-851-1763

Combs, Johnson, Murrell / Murrill, Payne, Rhodes, Fleming, Rogers, Jackson, Hagan
By 1812, from Hawkins & Knox to Warren Co, TN were Martin and Sarah COMBS Johnson; William and (Tisha COMBS?) Johnson; Daniel and Sylvia COMBS Paine; John and Nancy COMBS Fleming; Simon and Martha MURRILL/MURRELL Combs; and Jeremiah and Charity RHODES Combs. In 1820 Simon and Jeremiah COMBS are missing from census, but obviously still living in the area based on var. Warren TN deeds. In 1828 all except Daniel and Sylvie COMBS Paine, who have already left the state, are on the Rocky River Baptist Church list. Jeremiah and Simon were sons of Mason COMBS of Hawkins TN. What was relationship of other COMBS to Jeremiah and Simon? Who was Martha MURRELL? [Sadly, Carole has passed away.]
William COMBS resided in Hawkins Co, Tennessee, when on 9 Sep 1793, Joseph ROGERS granted him for a consideration of u150, 200 acres on south side of Holston River on Honeycutts Creek commonly called the Drye branch joining PAYN. Signed by Joseph ROGERS, witnessed by Thos JACKSON and James HAGAN. a (Hawkins DB2:186 abstract, B. R. McNamara). Who was this William COMBS? Was he the brother of Mason COMBS of Hawkins Co, TN. An adult son? Is he one of the William COMBS who were in Russell Co, VA? Given his close proximity to Mason COMBS, Martin JOHNSON and the PAYNES, he may be a likelier prospect than Mason COMBS to have been the father of one or more of: Sylvia COMBS Paine, Sarah COMBS Johnson, Nancy COMBS Flemming or Tisha COMBS Johnson who were later of Warren Co, TN, along with Mason COMBS’ documented sons, Simon (Simeon) and Jeremiah COMBS.

Denny, Swats
I am researching John S. DENNY and his wife Margaret SWATS. John was born about 1793 and married Margaret in Frederick County, VA. in 1818. John Fought in the War of 1812. John filed for a war pension and it was granted. John and his family relocated to Sullivan County, TN where he died in 1861 at Thomas Bridge, which is outside of Blountville, TN. Margaret died in 1884 and is buried in the old Blountville Cemetery. Luther DENNY, one of their sons, was a Captain in the Confederate Army of Tennessee and later worked as an assistant court clerk at the Blountville courthouse. John, Luther and at least three other sons of John were all millers. I believe one of his sons helped establish Bluff City Mills in Bluff City, TN. Another of his sons, Jacob, is buried at the old Providence Church in Hawkins County. Any help on finding the parents of John and Margaret would be greatly appreciated.

Harris, Lee, Hale
Am researching the family of James Harris, b. 6 May 1808 (s/o Benoni Harris and Rachel Lee) and Edith Lee, b.6 Jan 1818 (d/o James Lee and Hannah Hale. James and Edith had at least eight children. My ggggrandmother, Edith was 12 years old in 1830, according to the 1830 census she would have had at least one older brother and one older sister, two sisters and a brother in the same age bracket as she, and a younger brother and a younger sister. I have only 2 children Edith and her brother Thomas. Her father James was born about 1786 and her Mother was born about 1789.I do not have death dates for them, and have not been able to locate where they were buried. They all lived in and around the Persia area. James fought in the War of 1812 and Samuel G. Lee who lived next door to him in the 1850 Census signed his affidavit that he was the James Lee who served. Was Samuel his Uncle? an older brother? according to Thomas Lee’s family write-up in Goodspeed’s Families of East Tn., James’s father was Thomas Lee, who was probably the son of Capt. Thomas Lee, of North Carolina, who was the son of John Lee and Mary Bryant. I also have a problem with Hannah Hale. I have researched Hawkins, Greene and Washington Co.’s, trying to find a Hale family with a daughter Hannah to no avail. Could she have been a widow, when she married James? there were a couple of Hales who had wives named Hannah in the right age bracket. Does anyone have any idea of any records or where their might be a collection of old Bible records for the Hawkins Co. Area that I might search? Does anyone have any information on this Family? Also does anyone know who Rachel Lee was the daughter of? she and James might possibly be cousins of sorts as they are in the same age bracket and I think that all the Lee’s in Hawkins Co. in that time frame are probably related. Hoping that a distant cousin out there knows more than I do.
