Matilda Galbraith daughter of John Galbraith and Martha Larkins was born in Hawkins County, Tennessee on 20 May 1798. She married William Hagood, on 18 May 1826. William was the son of Mordecai Hagood, who moved into Hawkins County, probably about 1784. Matilda and William moved to Lewis County, Missouri ca 1835 and the family listed below is reconstructed from the 1850 Census Schedule of Lewis County, Missouri.

Undoubtedly they had more children than this, considering the fact that they had been married for at least 25 years. As a matter of fact there is a Leonidas Hagood age 22 living nearby, who no doubt is their son as William’s family is the only Hagood listed in Lewis County other than Leonidas.
