My 4great grandparents (Tavner and Cynthia (LEAGUE) MARTIN were members of Lookout Valley Primitive Baptist Church in the early 1800s. Per information on the Internet, as of a few years ago, services were still held at the location twice a month. Are Sunday morning services still held there?
If it is impossible for me to be in the area for a Sunday morning service, is it possible that someone could open the church so that I could go inside--for a few minutes--and see the scroll that reportedly contains the names of my ancestors. We plan to go through Chattanooga sometime this month, and we would stay overnight if necessary.
Many Thanks!

I have hit such a brick wall. I'm searching for William COOK, who perhaps was born in TN or SC. One of my records actually states NC, but I only have one record that states this. He was my great-great-grandfather. There are just so many William COOKs out there. Here is what I have on him:
William COOK was born perhaps in TN or SC. His wife's name was Katherine (possibly Catherine?) I don't have a birthday or anything like that, but I do have his children's b-days and such. This family lived in Chattanooga, Hamilton County, TN for many years. William COOK was murdered by marauders during the Civil War in AR or MO. His body was never found. Here are his three boys:
William Jasper COOK, b. 11/24/1835 in Chattanooga, TN.
Thomas Jefferson COOK, b. 12/24/1833 in Chattanooga, TN.
Samuel Doak COOK (my g-grandfather), b. 5/5/1844 in Chattanooga, TN.
Helen (COOK) BELLAH (married a county judge in Marble, Falls, TX.
Here is part of my family story from records.
The three COOK brothers moved to Texas before the Civil War, while William COOK moved to AR or MO to avoid the effects of war. After no success there, he sold the farm and was preparing to move back to TN (sent his wife and daughter on ahead), when he was attacked by marauders, perhaps Jayhawkers, looking for money from the sale of his property. Since he had sent the money along with his wife, he could not satisfy their demands and they took him off and killed him. His sons, having come home to help the family move, attempted to locate him and the marauders with no success. Samuel Doak "Doc" COOK told the story in latter years of having hunted down the villains and lynched them. His father's body was never recovered.

My gg-grandfather Solomon W. PARKER was in Hamilton Co. Tn. in 1870. His wife, Missouri (COX) THOMAS was with him and they were both listed on the 1870 Tn. census. The only reason I know that they might have been there would be that they had family there. I don't know how long they were there. He also had a daughter Missouri Melissa (PARKER) HALE and her husband Rufus who were there in 1860. If there is anyone who has any info on these people please contact me. His occupation was listed on the census as a "sawyer". I do know that he had worked in and around sawmills as a profession. I am looking for information on Merrill / Marl B. / Merl McCLENDON and Betty / Bettey OLDHAM - my grandfather, John Lafayette McCLENDON (born: May 1, 1893 Died: October 9, 1968) was their son. There is alot of confusion with the family information - because John was 7 years old (the youngest child) when his mother died. The confusion is that after lots of research his mother could have been listed incorrectly on his death certificate.
Merril B. McCLENDON (according to 1900 Census) Merril had been married 4 years to "Eliza J." and John was 7. in the 1910 Census - Merril has now been married 13 years and now shows a daughter "Hannah" - age 9.
My grandfather (John McCLENDON) - true blood brothers and sisters are: Dennis R. McCLENDON (b: 9/1875 - d: 12/1/1935), Margaret Addie McCLENDON (married Thomas NARAMORE), Matilda McCLENDON (married Lavander SIMS) Half sister: Hannah married Lester "Bo" ABLES.
If you have any information - of parents, grandparents, etc - it would be so helpful - we can not locate whom "Eliza J." was and can not locate further information on Betty OLDHAM - where she is from, parents, etc.
Thanks so much! Darlene McClendon Wooten (Kennesaw, GA)

My father, Washington FLENOY, was a preacher. Born November 6, 1899 or 1900. Ministered and founded First Baptist Church of Bozentown, Chattanooga, Tennessee. I need as much information as possible on him. I tried to obtain information years ago at the National Archives in DC as I live here. The information based on his father Henry FLENOY is obsolete because of possible fire during the Civil War.
Washington FLENOY was also the founder and preacher of Mt. Paran Baptist Church for 50 years, in Chattanooga. Had the nickname of John the Baptist. Last church pastored, Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, Park Road, Chattanooga, Tennessee
I know virtually nothing about my fathers' family. We have some descendents living. My eldest sister Hazel (FLENOY) Whatley Ponder lives in Tampa Florida. She is 79 years of age. I am 52 living in Washington DC.
Please help me. I am not in the position to spend a lot of money. Can you help me with free agencies for locating? My address is 1516 Oates Street NE Apt 21 Washington DC 20002 if you need to send information. I would greatly appreciate it.
