Hi, I am looking for information on COATES and MARTIN, Samuel MARTIN + Catherine HILDEBRAND lived in or around a place called Candy's Creek in the early 1800. Believe it is possible that the COATES family was also in that area.
I found info on an old Cherokee nation map, showing the location of Candy's Creek Baptist Mission in Amohee District. It was located N.W. of Chickamauga and Chattanooga. And a little S.W. of Ross's store and Fort Cass; or Cast, spelling was not clear, This where HILDEBRAND had his mill. also S.W. of the agency.
What I'm trying to find out is if there are any remanents of the mission, or it's records. My ggg Grandparents McKenzie COATES and Elizabeth MARTIN, daughter of Samuel and Catherine MARTIN, were married at the mission. I also thought they might list the parents of Catherine HILDEBRAND, her year of death. And also the parents of McKenzie COATES.
In another posting there was a notation that Samuel MARTIN was given reservation for life on this land. So he may also be buried in the area. Have not found any record of him going to the Indian territory with other family members.
McKenzie COATES is listed amoung the Old Settlers, so he and Elizabeth moved out of the area before 1834. My gg grandfather Charles COATS listed birthplace is Indian Territory, 1834.
Thank you advance for any information anyone may have.

Hello, Can y'all help me, please. I've been hitting a brick wall forever it seems. I am busy looking at the 1860 census for Hamilton Co. that you have on your website, but I think that I've looked through this before.
My g-g-grandfather, William COOK and his wife Katherine (or Catherine or Catharine, whatever) is what I'm looking for. My records show that they had three children living in Chattanooga in the 1800s. Here is what I have below:
Thomas Jefferson COOK, b. 12-24-1833.
William Jasper COOK, b. 11-24-1835.
Samuel Doak COOK (my g-grandfather), b. 5-5-1844.
Helen (COOK) BELLAH (married a judge in Marble Falls, TX) no birth date listed on my records.
For all the boys, I have them being born in Chattanooga, TN. However, I have the father, William COOK, wanting to move to avoid the effects of the Civil War. Don't have a date on that. I'm assuming that it was right before the war started, I guess.
So do you have anything on him? I've been searching, but I need some older census records than 1860. What I have it is said that the COOK family lived in Chattanooga, TN for many years, but I don't know how long.
Thanks,
Susie

I am looking for information on the death of a William S. WELLS, who died on 1/20/1891 in Chattanooga. He is buried in the National Cemetery as he was a Union Veteran in the Civil War. I am trying to find a death certificate or something on file that may list information on where he was born or his parent's names. His wife's name was Ruth. They lived in the Ridgedale area. She passed away in 1901 just across the state line in GA. I have been told that there are no county records and that the state records do not go that far back, but do not believe this is the case. The 1890 census for veterans does not include this information, nor does the pension records that I have found. Any help would be appreciated.

Son of *Charles GOINS: Born- Feb 10,1876 Tn -Died- Feb 22,1938
GOINS, Charles A.age 22, married BESHERSE, Etta-age 21 on May 28,1938- Walker Co,Ga- # 13-247. Etta had a younger sister named Ethel whom was 15 at this time
*GOINS, Charles A.age 32, married COLEMAN, Dorothy L.-age 21 on Apr 24,1948- Walker Co,Ga- # 37-600
My father is (John Ray BUTLER aka Jackie CAMPBELL, Jackie CLARK) the son of Charlie GOINS and Ethel BESHERSE whom is the younger sister of Etta BESHERSE. I thank God for Charlie GOINS because I reckon I would be here if it wasn't partly for him. I strongly believe everything happens for a reason and God is in control of everything.
I am looking for any info on my real (blood) grandfather Charlie GOINS or (his children) my (half) uncles Danny and Durwin GOINS plus my sweet aunt Joann (half whom lived in CA married to Ralph).
I imagine Charlie was a good man he simply made a mistake because he never took the time to know my dad and my dad was a good man - still is. Perhaps Charlie never knew that he was the father of Ethel's son Jackie aka Jackie.
Ethel couldn't raise my dad and his other half brother Wayne properly and the boys were eventually took in by Oakley and Elsie BUTLER of Limestone Co, AL.
Dad eventually joined the Air Force and served his country in the Vietnam War and retired from the military after 20 yrs of service. He then owned his own business and worked in civil services.
I am Jon BUTLER the youngest of 3 children of John and Nancy BUTLER - I hold no ill feelings towards Charlie GOINS - if he knew he was the father and kept it a secret then he is forgiven as the Holy Father in heaven has forgiven me for all the things I've done and continue to do. If Charlie didn't know he had a son named Jackie (John) then I would like the family to know he did indeed have a son named Jackie (John). My dad needs to be known and acknowledged by his lost family.
I too would simply like to know who my real family is. I'd like to know my heritage. I've got a big GOINS family out there that I know very little about. Please contact me if are directly related to any of the above mentioned folks.
Yearning.
251-968-5593 or bamabutlers@gulftel.com
Lastly I have pictures of Charlie GOINS and Joann GOINS and can identify them if needed. And by the way my dad was the spittin' image of Charlie when I compare pictures of them when they were both in their late 20's and 30's. Dad currently looks alot like Charles Samuel GOINS (Charlie's Dad).
I feel I also have a strong resemblence to Charlie when he was in his 30's. I wish I would have know the man.
Thanks for your time, help and consideration,
Jon Butler
