John Dykes’ Will
I John DYKE do hereby make and publish my last will and testament.
First, I desire that all my just debts be paid.
Second, I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Dolly DYKES my real estate the place on which I now live being two hundred acres, During her natural life or widowhood and after which same to be sold and the proceeds to be equally divided among all my children except my oldest daughter Sarah TATE.
Thirdly, I give and bequeath to my daughter Sarah TATE one dollar in money.
Fourthly, I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Dolly DYKES the remaining portion of my personal property which I may have after my just debts are all paid.
Fifthly, that Zander DYKES sell to the highest bidder at public outcry my wagon and yoke of oxens and apply the proceeds to the payment of my debts.
Sixthly, and lastly, I do hereby appoint Zander DYKES my Executor of this my last will and testament in witness whereof he is unable to assign my name. I acknowledge this in presents of John NORTHCUTT & Robert TATE on this 30 day of Sept. A.D. 1855
