Jesse B. Bynum, son of George Bynum and Rebecca B. Thomas, was born on 20 Aug 1833, in Cannon County, Tennessee. He married Mary Catherine Rebecca Hodges on 21 April 1858 in Coffee County, Tennessee. He enlisted in the 44th Tennessee Infantry, Co K in Hillsboro, Tennessee, in 1862. He stayed sick and at home so much, the Yankees were surrounded in the area of his home, causing him not to regroup with his company. Department of Cumberland has him listed as a POW and captured on 03 Jul 1863 at Tullahoma, Tennessee and was released on 09 Jul 1863 upon taking an oath. His wife filed a widow’s pension application in 1907. Jesse died in Tracy City, Grundy County, Tennessee on 24 Oct 1904. He is buried in the Tracy City Cemetery in the back of Section 7.
