LANDESS<\/strong> is a native of Tennessee, born July 22, 1818.\u00a0 He resided in Lincoln County, Tenn., until 1851, when he moved to Bedford County.\u00a0 He traveled considerably in Missouri and Arkansas in early life, being absent about six years.\u00a0 Shortly after moving to Bedford County he located on his present farm, consisting of 212 acres of fertile land, furnished with a neat cottage.<\/p>\n<p>December 3, 1850, he was married to <strong>Lucinda S. Hix<\/strong>, who was born October 6, 1832, and died July 8, 1852, leaving one child &#8212; <strong>Henry D.,<\/strong> born in 1851 and died July 16, 1852.\u00a0 May 24, 1853, <strong>Mr. Landess<\/strong> wedded <strong>Susan C. Campbell<\/strong>, daughter of <strong>Alfred and Sallie (Reeves)<\/strong> <strong>Campbell<\/strong>.\u00a0 <strong>Mrs. Landess<\/strong> was born May 10, 1835, and has borne her husband the following children: <strong>Sarah M.<\/strong>, born in 1854; <strong>Alfred G.<\/strong>, born in 1856;<strong> George W.,<\/strong> born in 1860; <strong>Mary F.<\/strong>, born in 1862; <strong>Grace C.<\/strong>, born in 1865; <strong>William G.<\/strong>, born in 1867; <strong>Mittie M.<\/strong>, born in 1872, and <strong>Henry H.<\/strong> born in 1875.\u00a0 <strong>Mr. Landess<\/strong> is a Democrat in politics, and he and wife are church members.\u00a0 His parents, Henry and Grace (Thompson) Landess, were born in North Carolina and Kentucky in 1777 and 1778, respectively.\u00a0 The father moved to Kentucky in 1789, and there married our subject&#8217;s mother in 1798, and became the father of thirteen children.\u00a0 They came to Tennessee at an early period, and died in Lincoln County in 1863 and 1801, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Transcribed by Kathryn Hopkins<\/p>\n<p>Goodspeed Publishing Co.\u00a0<i>History of Tennessee from the Earliest Time to the Present: Together with an Historical and a Biographical Sketch of Maury, Williamson, Rutherford, Wilson, Bedford &amp; Marshall Counties, Besides a Valuable Fund of Notes, Reminescences [Sic], Observations, Etc., Etc<\/i>.
