HUFFMAN,<\/strong> farmer, born April 13, 1830, in Bedford County, Tenn., son of <strong>John and Mary (Cortner) Huffman<\/strong>, natives of North Carolina.\u00a0 The father was born in 1800 and moved to Tennessee in 1819.\u00a0 He was of German descent and one of the best farmers of the county.\u00a0 He died in 1877, and his wife preceded him in 1875.<\/p>\n<p>Our subject received the rudiments of his education in the county schools, and subsequently at Fairfield.\u00a0 He began teaching at the age of twenty-one and taught two sessions.\u00a0 He then bought a farm near where he is at present living.\u00a0 In 1858 he married <strong>Miss Eliza Phillips<\/strong>, a native of Bedford County, and the fruits of this union were <strong>Mary A., Mattie J., Sallie A., Thomas L. and Alice<\/strong>, all living.\u00a0 The eldest, <strong>Mary A<\/strong>., is now <strong>Mrs. William Bennett<\/strong>, and they reside in California.\u00a0 He owns a large farm of 480 acres of as good land as lies in the county.\u00a0 It is in a most excellent state of cultivation and is known as Adams&#8217; Bottom.\u00a0 He has most excellent buildings, well located, and his house, lawn and premises are kept in a neat and tasteful manner.\u00a0 He is of the Cumberland Presbyterian faith and his wife is a member of that church.\u00a0 In politics he is a Democrat.<\/p>\n<p>Transcribed by Kathryn Hopkins<\/p>\n<p>Goodspeed Publishing Co.\u00a0<i>History of Tennessee from the Earliest Time to the Present: Together with an Historical and a Biographical Sketch of Maury, Williamson, Rutherford, Wilson, Bedford &amp; Marshall Counties, Besides a Valuable Fund of Notes, Reminescences [Sic], Observations, Etc., Etc<\/i>.
