{"id":814,"date":"2015-09-20T15:43:01","date_gmt":"2015-09-20T20:43:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/goodspeeds\/?p=814"},"modified":"2017-06-10T07:54:04","modified_gmt":"2017-06-10T12:54:04","slug":"john-hart","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/goodspeeds\/john-hart\/","title":{"rendered":"HART, John"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>JOHN HART<\/strong> is a son of <strong>James and Sarah (Fossett) Hart<\/strong>, who were born in North Carolina, and became the parents of nine children:\u00a0 <strong>Stephen, Thomas, Susan, Rachel, John, Lucretia, Nathaniel B., Mary A. and William G.<\/strong>\u00a0<strong style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Mr. Hart<\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\"> came to Rutherford County, Tenn., in 1816, and in 1827 moved to Bedford County, where he died December 10, 1856.\u00a0 <\/span><strong style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Mrs. Hart<\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\"> died August 30, 1860.\u00a0 She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Our subject was born April 29, 1819, in Rutherford County, and the major part of his life has been spent on a farm.\u00a0 He began doing for himself as a merchant, and clerked in the store of <strong>William G. Cowan,<\/strong> of Shelbyville.\u00a0 He was married in December, 1842, to <strong>Virginia Holder<\/strong>, daughter of <strong>John W. Holder<\/strong>, and by her is the father of four children:\u00a0 <strong>James H., Catherine E., John W. and Carrie B<\/strong>., all of whom are dead save one.\u00a0 For his second wife <strong>Mr. Hart<\/strong> took <strong>Narcissa (Phillips) Jennings<\/strong>, daughter of <strong>Garrett Phillips.<\/strong>\u00a0 They have one child, <strong>Lillian C.<\/strong>\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">In 1847 he removed to his present place of abode, on the Murfreesboro Pike, five miles from Shelbyville. <strong>Mr. Hart<\/strong> served in the United States Army for about one year in the late war.\u00a0 He is a Republican in politics, and is a member of the Masonic fraternity.\u00a0 Both he and Mrs. Hart are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Transcribed by Kathryn Hopkins<\/p>\n<p>Goodspeed Publishing Co.\u00a0<i>History of Tennessee from the Earliest Time to the Present: Together with an Historical and a Biographical Sketch of Maury, Williamson, Rutherford, Wilson, Bedford &amp; Marshall Counties, Besides a Valuable Fund of Notes, Reminescences [Sic], Observations, Etc., Etc<\/i>.
