BAYLOR<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, merchant and farmer, was born at Christianburg, Va., February 25, 1822, the son of <strong>Abram and Jane BAYLOR<\/strong>, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">nee<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong> GLENN<\/strong>, the former of English-Irish origin, and born near Crab Orchard Springs, Ky., March 13, 1785, where she died in February 1865. \u00a0The father died in December, 1854. \u00a0After his marriage in 1815, he became a farmer at the latter place. \u00a0They were Presbyterians. \u00a0The father was a Democrat. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The subject of this sketch is one of their family of ten children. \u00a0He was educated in Montgomery County, Va., and lived at home until twenty-nine years old. \u00a0In March, 1853, <strong>Lucy O<\/strong>., a daughter of <strong>William and Lettie HORTON<\/strong>, became his wife. \u00a0She was born March 31, 1882, in Russell County, Va.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our subject lived one year at Christiansburg and two at Wytheville, Va., as a merchant, and in February, 1856, became a merchant at Joneseville, Va., for sixteen years. \u00a0In 1872 he came to Claiborne County, Tenn., and bought a farm at Big Sycamore Creek, where he has since had a general store. \u00a0Of six sons and five daughters, two of the former and one of the latter are deceased. <strong>Mr. BAYLOR<\/strong> is a staunch Democrat and Prohibitionist. \u00a0He, his wife and most of their family are members of the Southern Methodist Church. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Goodspeed Publishing Co.\u00a0<i>History of Tennessee from the Earliest Time to the Present: Together with an Historical and a Biographical Sketch of from Twenty-Five to Thirty Counties of East Tennessee<\/i>.
