APPLETON/APPLING - Seeking info on the APPLING children: Mary Ann [who married Winchester WOOLEY], Elizabeth [who married Wiley WOOLEY], Samuel H., Millie [who married James Henry ATTKISSON], John. These children were born in AL - around Tuscaloosa and their father was William APPLING and their mother Cornelia. They are listed in the 1850 AL census with father and mother but by 1860 AL their father has died and their mother has remarried Cullen P. BLANKENSHIP and they have one child, Theodora b. 1859-60 Fayette County AL. In 1870 the children and the mother who has now married Henry SMITH are in Giles County TN. There are two BLANKENSHIP children. It is believed that the APPLING children did not know how to read or write and with the many APPLETON families in Giles County - they just changed the spelling of their name from APPLING to APPLETON. Anyone reseaching any of these families, please e-mail and verify my theories...Thanks.

LONGSHORE I am trying to research the family of John Longshore. John came to Giles County by 1836 (tax records) The only other LONGSHORE in the area was Eldridge LONGSHORE whom I believe to be the son of John. John was born in Newberry District, SC circa 1798-1800. His father, John Levi LONGSHORE is found in Quaker Records. John Levi's wife is listed in quaker records as Sarah. My John LONGSHORE in Giles County married Keseah Wright SANDERS in 1840 in Giles Co. This was a second marriage for both. She was the widow of John SANDERS. I believe John to be the father of Eldridge, but I have not been able to prove it. Eldridge married Martha HOWELL in 1845 in Morgan Co., Missouri. They raised their family in Giles Co. Any clue to prove John and Eldgridge's relationship would be greatly appreciated.
