(Captain) &#8211; (b. 1835)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>CAPT. JOHN D. FLAUTT,<\/strong> cashier of the Giles National Bank, was born in Lincoln County, Tenn., October 2. 1835, son of<strong> James and Delilah O. (Dillon) Flautt<\/strong>, and is of German descent. <strong>James Flautt<\/strong> was born in Maryland, in 1800, and his wife in North Carolina, in 1804. He came to Tennessee in 1820 and to Giles County in 1838, and died in the latter place in 1883. <strong>Mrs. Flautt<\/strong> died in 1868. Our subject is the sixth of their seven children, and received the rearing and schooling of the average farmer\u2019s boy, besides attending Giles College, at Pulaski. From 1860 until May 14, 1861, he was a clerk in the dry goods store of D. C. Corbt &amp; Co. At the latter date he enlisted in John C. Brown\u2019s Company, Third Tennessee, Confederate States Army, as private, and was commissioned regimental quartermaster in October, 1862, with the rank of captain, and thus continued until the close of the war. In December, 1865, he engaged in the hardware business in Pulaski, but in 1882 was elected assistant cashier of Giles National Bank, and January, 1883, was elected cashier. May 19, 1869, he wedded <strong>Salonia M. Rose<\/strong>, daughter of<strong> Col. S. E. Rose.<\/strong> They have five children: <strong>Marcella R., James S., Mary L., John H. and Meredith.<\/strong> <strong>Mr. Flautt<\/strong> is a Democrat, and cast his first presidential vote for Buchanan.
