{"id":377,"date":"2013-05-17T21:50:48","date_gmt":"2013-05-18T02:50:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/giles\/?p=377"},"modified":"2017-06-10T07:50:56","modified_gmt":"2017-06-10T12:50:56","slug":"buford-charles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/giles\/buford-charles\/","title":{"rendered":"BUFORD, Charles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>CHARLES BUFORD<\/b>, of the firm of\u00a0<b>Buford &amp; Carter<\/b>, in Pulaski, Tenn., dealers in hardware and agricultural implements, was born March 3, 1839, and is a son of\u00a0<b>Nicholas C. and Elizabeth W. Buford<\/b>, who were Tennesseeans by birth, and were married in 1838. To them were born the following family:\u00a0<b>Charles, Richard B., Elbridge G., Lewis C., William A., Irene, Lucretia, Thomas, Mark, Sallie, Lucy, Lena, May and Claud. Nicholas C. Buford<\/b>\u00a0died in 1869.\u00a0<b>Charles<\/b>\u00a0is the eldest of the family, and received a liberal education in Giles College, at Pulaski. In 1861 he enlisted in the Third Tennessee Regiment and served until 1864, when he was wounded at Resaca, Ga., and retired from active service. After his return he farmed, and in the fall of 1866 moved to Nashville and engaged in clerking and book-keeping until 1870, when he returned to Giles County, and until 1875 was a tiller of the soil in that and Shelby County. At the latter date he moved to Pulaski, and has since been engaged in his present business. In 1870 he and\u00a0<b>Rosa Carter<\/b>\u00a0were married. To them was born one child,\u00a0<b>Mabel<\/b>. Mrs. Buford died in 1872, and in 1884\u00a0<b>Ella Stokes<\/b>\u00a0became\u00a0<b>Mr. Buford&#8217;s<\/b>\u00a0second wife. They have one daughter-\u00a0<b>Martha S<\/b>. Our subject is a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and his wife of the Methodist Episcopal Church South.\u00a0<b>Mr. Buford<\/b>\u00a0is a Democrat and a member of the P. &amp; A.
