Every once in a while I go back to the Gibson Co page and give it a thump to see if anything new pops up to help me in my search for my Reed ancestors.\u00a0\u00a0I am a descendant of Clayton Reed who m Jane and had:\u00a0 Jesse b 1934, Alfred D b 1837 (my ancestor), William b 1840. Mary b 1843, Peter b 1845 and Junius b 1848.\u00a0 I find Clayton and brother Harmon in sheriff’s census which I think is for tax purposes in 1840 but he does not appear in 1850 when Jane is living alone with her children.\u00a0 In 1860 it seems some of the children are living with Harmon or Harrison as it is in some places where it has been digitized.\u00a0 William M Reed is buried in Mt Pleasant cemetery and is a son of Harmon and grandson of Columbus Reed.\u00a0<\/p>\n
This is about what I have in a nut shell.\u00a0 Do you know if there are still Reed families living in your area that might be part of this family?\u00a0 I see there were several Reed brothers who came there early in the 1800s but I have no idea the connection my family might have with them.\u00a0 Any info would be very much appreciated.\u00a0 This is my brick wall and I haven’t been able to get past it for years.\u00a0 A surname for Jane would be fantastic.<\/p>\n
Alfred left there and went to Arkansas and the family settled in what is now Yell county.\u00a0 He enlisted in the union army along with another William Reed from Gibson but their birth dates are roughly the same so can’t prove if this is his brother or another William.<\/p>\n
Would appreciate any help.<\/p>\n
