William P. BURKE (b1826 TN) married Mary E. in TN and moved to AR 1871/72. They had 5 children in TN before they moved and at least 5 more in AR. The first child was b1858, so I figure they got married 1857 in TN. I have a handwritten note from my grandfather that says that my g-grandmother, Alice V. BURKE (b1869 TN) was born in Winchester, Franklin or Johnston Co. TN. I just located these BURKES in AR and it says that William P’s father was born in VA and mother in TN. Anyone hunting this line?

ROLLINS/ROLLINGS/RAWLINGS

I am researching the Rollins families of Marion, Grundy and Franklin Counties of Tenn. I would like to hear from anyone who has some connections to this family name. There are many connections already within my files, but I feel that there are still many more uncompleted lines. Currently the line has been traced back to the year 1780. Benjamin Rawlings, from Va. and Wife Martha Powell, 1785 from SC. If your Rollins ancestors lived in 1 of these 3 counties then there could be a connection. Please contact me. Thanks

HAMRICK

My great-great-grandfather, John M. Hamrick was a member of an Alabama regiment fighting in Tenn. during the Civil War. He was either killed or died of a illness in or around Franklin County. My uncle was in the Army during World War II and stationed at nearby Tullahoma, guarding German prisoners at a large camp. His aunt, who lived near Chattanooga, took him to the gravesite. He remembers going through Cowan and along a country road that snaked up a mountain past a large church with a high steeple visible for a distance. Three graves were just off the road on a small plateau atop the mountain. They were unmarked but surrounded by a wire fence. His aunt said one of the graves was his great-grandfather’s. This was over 50 years. Are the graves still there? Does anyone know anything about them? Help!

BARNES,MOORE,MILLER,GOODLOE,WOODS

In July, 1857, Lucy Elizabeth BARNES married Dr. John Woods MOORE in Franklin Co., TN. From later census records, Lucy was born in AL ca 1835. Have been unable to find Lucy in a parents’ family 1850 census. From other circumstantial evidence, she may have had a brother W. Ephraim Barnes, a sister named Caroline, and/or a sister with initials M. E. Does anyone know who Lucy Elizabeth BARNES’ parents/family were?

BEAN, WINDHAM, COPE, REEVES

Does anyone know of the burial sites of George BEAN , his wife Prudence WINDHAM (Widow of COPE) and/or their daughter, Amanda BEAN REEVES? Since all of the BEANs played such significant roles in the early history of Tennessee from being the first white settlers to The Battle of King’s Mountain etc., I would think there would be some records of their burial places or someone who might have the locations passed down to them in family histories. Seems as if Russell is the only one who gets attention. Any help out there? Thanks.

SMITH, JONES

I am looking for information on my ggrandmother. Her name was Rhoda Jones, but it may have been Rudy or Redy when she was born. Her mother abandoned her and her father left her at a mining camp in Ky, where she was to stay with a house owned by the mine. When John and Pearl Smith lived in the house, they decided to take her with them, probably to take care of their kids. At one time Rhoda attended St. Mary’s School for girls on Sewanee Mtn. That was probably between 1902-1906. John and Pearl couldn’t afford to keep her for awhile and left her there for probably about 1 year. One night, Pearl snuck into the school and took her out. The nuns went to their house, but Pearl hid Rhoda and wouldn’t let her go back, even though she really wanted to. So at one time, John and Pearl Smith must have lived close by. Any information on them or St. Mary’s School would be greatly appreciated.
