C. Charlton<\/b>, a worthy resident of White Bluff, was born January 9, 1831, being the fifth of six children born to\u00a0<b>John L.\u00a0<\/b>and\u00a0<b>Catherine B. (Pollard) Charlton<\/b>, residents of\u00a0<b>Montgomery County<\/b>, Va. The father was a very successful, wealthy and influential farmer and his brother, our subject&#8217;s uncle, was a member of the General Assembly of Virginia for twenty years. Our subject received but a limited education while with his parents, and at the age of thirteen years left the parental roof and served an apprenticeship in the wagon and carriage-making shop of\u00a0<b>J. A. Clay<\/b>\u00a0for three and a half years. He then followed his trade a number of years, and with the money he accumulated attended a medical college in Nashville, with\u00a0<b>Dr. W. Bollen\u00a0<\/b>as instructor, and graduated after a three years&#8217; course. During the first year of his attendance he was janitor of the building, and during the remainder of the time was assistant in chemistry. He practiced his profession two years in Ashland City, three years in Erin, and in 1869 removed to White Bluff, where he is a successful practitioner. The Doctor is literary in his tastes and his library is one of the most complete in the county. He was married, November 28, 1855, to\u00a0<b>Nancy Ann Troublefield<\/b>. To them were born seven children, three of whom are living:\u00a0<b>Nannie L<\/b>.,\u00a0<b>Willie C.<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0<b>George M.<\/b>\u00a0The family are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church South.\u00a0<b>Dr. Charlton<\/b>\u00a0is a member of the F. &amp; A. M. and I. O. O. F., and he is a firm Democrat and stands high in the estimation of the people.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. W. C.
