My Grandmother, Evalena LUTHER, daughter Jack LUTHER and Amanda TATE-LUTHER, of Burns, Dickson County, Tennessee, penned the following poem to her son, Orville Matthew BROWN. At the time he was stationed at Adak, Aleutian Islands, on his 25th birthday:<\/p>\n
My Dear Son Orville,<\/p>\n
“Just a word or two this morning,
\nwe’re sending on the way;
\nTo let you know we’re thinking of you
\non your twenty-fifth birthday.<\/p>\n
May it be a year of pleasure,
\nand bring victory to us all;
\nWe’ll work and fight together..
\nCan’t let our country fall.<\/p>\n
You often dream of home you say,
\nsun shining in your face;
\nWhen mother wakes you from your sleep..
\nmay reality the dream replace.<\/p>\n
Those few short years have passed away,
\nwhen once you sat in our laps,
\nBut you’re a brave, strong man today..
\nagainst those dirty Japs.<\/p>\n
