Morton<\/b>, a highly respected and esteemed citizen of White Bluff, Tenn., was born October 10, 1836, in Haddington, Scotland, being the youngest of eleven children of\u00a0<b>Thomas D.<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0<b>Marguerite (Donrad) Morton<\/b>. The father was a native of Scotland and the mother was of French descent.\u00a0<b>Col. Morton<\/b>\u00a0received a liberal education in his native land, and at the age of fifteen came to the United States and worked at the carpenter&#8217;s trade and at merchandising until the breaking out of the late war, when he enlisted under\u00a0<b>Capt. McNary<\/b>\u00a0of the First Battalion Tennessee Cavalry, Confederate States Army. By his faithful and efficient service he was raised from a private to the rank of lieutenant-colonel. He was wounded six times, but at present suffers but little from the effects. May 1, 1866, he was married to\u00a0<b>Miss Dora Donelson<\/b>, and to them were born seven children:\u00a0<b>George H.<\/b>,\u00a0<b>Thomas D.<\/b>,\u00a0<b>Turner H.<\/b>,\u00a0<b>James T.<\/b>,\u00a0<b>William Lee<\/b>,\u00a0<b>Norman H.<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0<b>Dora<\/b>.\u00a0<b>Col. Morton\u00a0<\/b>is a member of the F. &amp; A. M., I. O. O. F. and K. of H. He is at present engaged in the general merchandise business at White Bluff and carries a stock valued from $3,000 to $4,000. He was burned out in 1882, but with the exception of that has been quite fortunate in his business transactions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Col. George H.
