  Funeral services for Betty Abernathy, 67, of Smithville, TN were held Tuesday, August 18, 2003 at the Chapel of Love- Cantrell Funeral Home.
  Bro. A1 Mahan officiated and burial followed in Bonham Cemetery.
Mrs. Abernathy died Saturday, August 16, 2003 at Centennial Medical Center. She was retired from Shoneys and a member of The Baptist Church.
  She was preceded in death by her parents: Lester Burton and Julia Adcox Burton.
  She is survived by her daughter, Judy (Mike) Boyd; two grandsons: John Fagan and Jason Bright and one great-granddaughter; Chyanne Fagan all of Smithville; two sisters: Francis Perrin of Kentucky and Sue Kinzer of Hermitage.

Ackley, Fred

  Mr. Fred Ackley of Dowelltown, Tn. passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at Baptist DeKalb Hospital of an extended illness. His remains were cremated.
  He was a truck driver and affiliated with the Methodist church. He was also a member of the TN Defense Force and the American Legion Post #122.
  He is survived by his compan­ion, Marty; two sons: Kenneth and Michael E. VanPatten; three daughters: Debbie Suarez, Cindy Loden and Bonnie Cantrell; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald Ackley of Binghamton, NY and one aunt, Mrs. Mildred Rough of Towanda, PA.

    Funeral services for Mr. Brownie Adams, 65, of Smithville were held Sunday, June 25, 2000 at 2  p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel in Smithville. Bro. David England and Bro. Earl Williams officiated and burial followed in Dekalb Memorial Gardens. Masonic services were held, Saturday, June 24, 2000 at 7 p.m.
   Mr. Adams died Thursday, June 22, 2000 at Williamson Medical Center in Franklin. He was self-employed in the drywall business, a member of the Mt. Pisgah Free Will Baptist Church, and a member of the Short Mountain Lodge #373.
   Mr. Adams was preceded in death by his father, T.B. Adams.
   Survivors of Mr. Adams include: his wife, Willie Brown Adams of Smithville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Karen Adams of Smithville and Mike and Debbie Adams of Cookeville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Vicky and Randall Duke and Veronica and John Pack, all of Smithville; this mother, Dorothy Adams of McMinnville; sisters, Mary Adams of McMinnville, Phyllis Hendrix of Hendersonville, and Brenda Wiser of Murfreesboro; mother-in-law, Evelyn Crips of Smithville; and grandchildren, Amanda  Adams, Jennifer Adams, Marla Adams, Justin Duke, Brooke Pack, Megan Pack, Jared Adams, and Mykaela Duke.

  Funeral services for Henry Curtis Adams, 65, were held Wednesday, October 11th, 2006, at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Clayton Neal officiating and interment following at Mt. Holly Cemetery.
  Mr. Adams, passed away Sunday, October 8th, 2006, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. He was a carpenter and a member of Enon Baptist Church.
  He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Thomas and Lela Curtis Adams.
  He is survived by his wife, Dianna Adams of Smithville; three children, Penny Arnold of Chattanooga, Lee Adams of Smithville and Scott Adams of Smithville; seven grandchildren, Terry Arnold, John Curtis Adams, Jessica, Jarrett, Jordan, Zachary, and Jesse Adams; one great-grandson, Corbin Arnold; one brother, Sammy Adams of Powell TN; and several nieces and nephews.

  Funeral services for Jim Adams, 53, of Sparta, TN, Johnson's Chapel, were held Monday, March 28, 2005 at Allen's Chapel United Methodist Church with Bro. Ronald Whited and Bro. Tim Ferguson officiating and burial in Bonham Cemetery.
  Mr. Adams passed away Friday, March 25, at Middle Tennessee Medical Center. He was retired from Smithville Save-A-Lot and a member of Allen's Chapel United Methodist Church.
  He was preceded in death by his parents: Harold and Barbara McKowan Adams and brother, Tom Adams.
  He is survived by his wife, Cindy Adams of Sparta; two daughters: Becky Taylor and husband, Bart, of Carthage and Allison Adams of LaVergne; three sisters: Ann Hargrove and husband, Mike, and Patti Clayborne and husband, Ronnie, both of Murfreesboro and Amy Ward and husband, David, of Washington and several nieces and nephews.

  Services for Ray Donald Adams, 32, were held Jan. 20 at 1 p.m. at Love-Cantrell Chapel. Bro. Richard Franklin officiated. Burial was in Banks Cemetery.
  Mr. Adams died Jan. 18 in the Jacob Pillar Community.
  A native of Warren County, he was the son of Jessie Mai Miller Adams of Smithville and the late Jewel Brown Adams.
He was a nurseryman and a Baptist.
  Other survivors include his wife, Romanda Tucker Adams of Smithville; two daughters, Jellian Adams of New York and Chelsie Adams of Smithville; three brothers, Ricky Adams, Avion Foster and David Miler, all of Smithville; a sister, Brenda Buck of Georgia; and maternal grandmother, Nannie Mai Miller of Smithville.

   Funeral services for Mr. Ben Adamson, 89, of Liberty, were held on March 11, 2000 at 11 a.m. at Salem Baptist Church in Liberty. Don Mathis officiated and burial followed in the Salem Cemetery in Liberty.
   Mr. Adamson died Thursday March 9, 2000 at the N.H.C. Health Care Center in Smithville. He was a  resident of  208 Cedar Street in Liberty, a retired school teacher, a 50 year member of the DeKalb Masonic Lodge #358 in Liberty, and a member of the Salem Baptist Church in Liberty.
   Masonic services were held for Mr. Adamson on Friday night, March 10 at 7:00 p.m. at the  Liberty  Chapel  of  Walker Funeral Home.
   He was prededed in death by his parents  Dr.  William  and Nola Adamson, and his wife Macon Snow Adamson.
   He is survived by one sister, Annette Knott of Old Hickory, Tenn. and several nieces and nephews:

    Funeral services were held September 5 at Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown for Candie Williams Adamson, 91, of Watertown. Terry Wilkerson and Carl Russell officiated and burial followed in Jones Hill Cemetery.
   She died September 3 at her home. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Sebastian Williams and Canzadia Rich Williams, and a daughter, Dorothy Jean McIntyre.  
 She was a retired nurses aide at Clover Bottom Hospital and a member of the Round Lick Baptist Church.
  She is survived by four daughters: Margaret Adamson, Virginia Adamson and Janise Adamson of Watertown and Joyce Randolph of California; a brother, Austin Williams of Watertown; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Adamson. Mary Fannie

   The funeral of Mary Fannie Adamson, 86 of Dowelltown was held Sunday June 13, 1999 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel in Smithville. Bro. Paul Sanders officiated and interment was in Poplar Hill Cemetery in Watertown.
   Mrs. Adamson died June 11, 1999 at her residence in Dowelltown from an extended illness. She was a homemaker and a member of the Body of Jesus Christ. Her parents were the late Sam and Mary Elizabeth Easters Tribble. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim Adamson, a daughter Mary Petty and a son Rudolph Adamson.
   Mrs. Adamson is survived by one daughter Alberta Byrd of Dowelltown. She is also survived by eleven grandchilren, nineteen great grandchildren and fifteen great-great grandchildren.

  Funeral services for Aletha Adcock, 67, were held June 22 at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Home. Gary McBride and Bill Shaw officiated and burial was in Jefferson Cemetery.
  She died June 19 at St. Thomas Hospital following an extended illness.
  She was a homemaker and a member of Sink Creek Baptist Church. Her parents were the late Erby and Mable Tuner Jones. She was also preceeded in death by her husband, J. B. Adcock.
  She is survived by one son, Joel Adcock, of Smithville. Three daughters: Pam Page, of Smithville, Deborah Hodges and Penny Smith both of McMinnville; five sisters: Thelma Earman and Virginia Jeanette Redmon of Alexandria, Violet Jones of Crossville, Rebecca Ervin of Smithville and Jewel Wiser of McMinnville. Twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive.

   She  is survived by her husband: William Charles Adcock, Sr.; a son: William C. Adcock, Jr. of Murfreesboro; daughters: Alma Patton of Monroe, L.A., Juanita Watkins of Rockvale, and Delma Taylor of Murfreesboro; brothers: Lanis Pullum of Oak Ridge, and Taylor Pullum of Sparta; sisters: Leora Bolin of Doyle, and Mae Whitaker of Sparta; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

  Funeral services for Mr. Danny Lee Adcock, 56, of Smithville, were held Saturday, August 11, 2007 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Bro. Don Davidson and Bro. Michael Hale officiated and burial followed at DeKalb Memorial Gardens.
  Mr. Adcock passed away Thursday, August 11, 2007 at Centennial Medical Center. He attended the Real Life Community Church and was a Disabled Veteran. He was a United States Army Vietnam Veteran. He was a member of the V F.W. and Phoenix Jaycee's.
  He was preceded in death by his father, Haston Adcock and a brother, Ronald Adcock.
  He is survived by his sons, Matt (Monica) Adcock of Maricopa, Arizona, Anthony Adcock of Smithville, and his mother, Rose Adcock of Smithville; brothers, Gary Adcock of Smithville, Eddie (Kim) Adcock of St. Clair Shores, Michigan, and Kenny Adcock of Chandler, Arizona; grandchildren, Eddie and Mackenzie Adcock; uncle, Don Redmon of Smithville; aunt, Jesse Milton of Beloit, Wisconsin; niece, Holly (Dale) Bryant; nephews, Jonathon, Kory and Kyle Adcock; ex-wife, Frances Matsco; and many other family, friends, and loved ones.
  Pallbearers were Jerry Tramel, Dale Bryant, David Redmon, Donnie Redmon, Jerry Adcock, and Tim Adcock.

   Funeral services for Mr. David Harold Adcock, 58, of the Keltonburg Community, were held Sunday, October 29, 2000, at 1:00 p.m. at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Bransford England officiated with burial following at DeKalb Memorial Gardens.
  Mr. Adcock died Thursday, October 26, 2000 at St. Thomas Hospital following an accident.
  Mr. Adcock. was a self employed construction worker.
  Mr. Adcock was preceded in death by his son, David Harold Adcock, Jr. and parents, Erbie and Clara Lawson Adcock.
  Survivors for Mr. Adcock include: wife, Bobbie Simmons Adcock of Smithville; son, Steve Adcock of Franklin; sister, Ruth Poore of Sparta; grandchildren, Erin and Shelby Adcock of Franklin, Jamie and Clay Adcock of Gainesboro, TN.

  Mr. Adcock passed away at his residence. He was a paramedic and was disabled for 10 years and a member of Keltonburg Church of Christ.

  Memorial services for Mr. Ernest Garland Adcock, 79, of Smithville, were held Tuesday, September 12, 2000 at 1 p.m. at New Union Baptist Church in celebration of his life. Bro. Bransford England and Bro. Eddie Cantrell officiated with interment following in New Union Cemetery.
   Mr. Adcock died September 10, 2000 at his residence in the Belk Community. He was a retired, nurseryman, a member of the New Union Baptist Church, a Deacon at the New Union Baptist Church,  and  a WWII veteran.

  Mr. Adcock passed away Friday, March 16th, 2007, at DeKalb Community Hospital of an extended illness. He was a retired welder and affiliated with Sink Creek Baptist Church.

  McMinnville resident and DeKalb County native Ewin (Ed) L. Adcock, 68, died Aug. 12 at his home after an extended illness.
  The son of Stoke and Sarah Arnold Adcock, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James Cordon and Jessie Jewell Adcock.
  He is survived by two daughters, Sharon Adcock of Naperville, ILL, and Cheryl Adcock of Jackson, Wyoming; three sisters, Elizabeth McMillen and Jean Myers, both of McMinnville and Ruby Leneve of Chattanooga; and one brother, Willie Adcock of San Jose, Calif.

  Issac (Ike) Adcock, 75-year-old Keltonburg farmer and nurseeryman, died unexpectedly in Warren Regional Hospital at 3 p.m. March 16.
  Married to the former Gleaska McGinness, he was a son of the late Jim and Mai Redmon Adcock.
  Besides his widow, he is survived by a daughter. Mrs. Burton (Lena) Jones of Route 2, Smithville. He is also :survived by a brother, Zeb Adcock of Smithville; two sisters, Mrs. Chole Magness, Route 2, Smithville, and Mrs. Willie Vaughn of Route 1, Smithville, and three grandchildren.
  Glendon Cantrell and Paul Hughey conducted the services at noon Wednesday in McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel.       Interment was in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.

  Funeral services for Mr. Ramon Adcock, 72, were held Sunday, June 7, 1998 in the Love-Cantrell Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. William Palmiter officiated and interment followed in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.
  He died Friday, June 5, 1998 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. Mr. Adcock had practiced law in DeKalb County for 48 years. He was a veteran of World War II having served as a crew member on B-29 Bombers. He also served as President of Smithville Chamber of Commerce, Smithville Jaycees, the old Smithville Country Club, was a Board Member of Alexandria Bank and Trust Company, and was a Field Representative and District Campaign Manager for the Late Congressman Joe L.   Rosa Flanders Adcock, 81, of Route 1, Smithville, died Jan. 20 at McMinnville Health Care Center after an extended illness.
  A retired employee of Mid-South Funeral Supplies and a member of the Bluff Springs Church of Christ, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Mary Lou Cantrell Flanders.
  Mrs. Adcock was preceded in death by her husband, James Curtis Adcock.
  She is survived by one son, James Adcock of Cookeville; one daughter, Elizabeth Northcutt of McMinnville; two sisters, Mrs. Franklin Blue of McMinnville and Blanche Marsh of Shelbyville; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
  Services were held Jan. 21 at McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel with Richard Bowman officiating. Burial followed at Webb Cemetery.

  Graveside services for Mr. Ted Adcock, 79, of Hendersonville, were held at Jefferson Cemetery. on Monday, April 16, 2001 at 4 p. m. Bro. Ernest Laws officiated.
  Mr. Adcock died at Alive Hospice Inc. in Nashville. He was a plumber for Beaty Construction Co.
  Mr. Adcock was preceded in death by his father, Newton Edgar Adcock and his brother, Billy Adcock.

  Funeral services for Mr. Wayne Adcock, age 59 of Livingston and formerly  of  Smithville were held Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel in Smithville.

  Mr. Adcock died Sunday afternoon June 2 at Cookeville Regional Hospital. He was  a retired Wildlife Resource Officer and was a member at the Smithville United  Methodist Church.

Adcock, Wesley

  Wesley H. Adcock, 71, year old resident of Route 2, Rock Island died of a five month illness in Vanderbilt Hospital, Nashville, at 11:25 p.m. March 25.
  A native of DeKalb County and a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, he had been employed by Smith & Son Wholesale Distributors.
  Married to the former Virgle Watson, he was the son of the late Wesley and Dora Pack Adcock.
  In addition to his widow, he is survived by three sons, Phillip of McMinnville, Larry of Murfreesboro, and Wesley Frank Adcock of Tampa, Fla.; three daughters, Hilda Holt and Mrs. Danny (Audrey) Burger, both of McMinnville and Mrs. Ralph (Dora) Jeffries of Indiana; a sister, Mrs. Obie Adcock of Smithville and 12 grandchildren.
  Services were held March 28 at Love-Cantrell & Cope. Rev. Morris Watson officiated. Burial was in Whorton Springs Cemetery.

  Funeral services for  William C. Adcock, Sr., 88, of Murfreesboro,, TN, a native of DeKalb County, were held Friday, October 10, 2003 at Woodfin Memorial Chapel in Murfreesboro.
Bro. Tommy Davis officiated and burial followed in Peeled Chestnut Cemetery in Smithville.
  Mr. Adcock died Wednesday, October 9, 2003. He was retired from The Alvin C. York Veteran Hospital. He served in the army during WWII and was a member of the Baptist Church.
  He was preceded in death by his parents: Henery and Lizzie Robinson Adcock; his wife, Berchie Pullum Adcock and daughter, Thelma Hayes.

  Woodrow Adcock, 71, a resident of 112 Ash Street, McMinnville, died June 22 at the Alvin C. York V.A. Medical Center in Murfreesboro following an extended Illness.
  A nurseryman, Mr. Adcock was a native of DeKalb County and was a son of the late Thomas P. Adcock and Birdie Russell Adcock. He was a member of the Dibrell Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon.
Services were held at 2 p.m. June 24 at McMinnville Chapel of Love-Cantrell and Cope Funeral home. Eddie Glen Cantrell officiated. Burial was in the Mt. View Cemetery.

  He died Sunday, June 14, 1998 at Baptist Hospital in Nashville. He was a resident of Toad Road in Smithville, a retired employee of Avco Aierostructers in Nashville, a U.S. Marine Corp veteran and a member of the New Home Baptist Church. His parents were the late William and Martha Pack Adkins.   Memorial service for loving husband, father and papa, Homer V. Adkins, 62, of Machesney Park, IL were held Friday, February 4, 2005 in the North Park Covenant Church with Rev. Timothy Bukowski officiating.
  Mr. Adkins passed away Monday, January 31, 2005 in OSF. Saint Anthony Medical Center, after a brave and courageous battle with diabetes. He was born in Smith County, TN. Formerly employed by Twin Disc, Roper Whitney Corp. and Master Gear. He was an avid Chicago Bulls and Atlanta Braves fan. His greatest love was spending tine with his family and dearly loved his granddaughters. He also enjoyed fishing.
  He was preceded in death by his father, Virgil, and grandson, Noah.

  Funeral services for Mr. Fred Floyd "Pap" Agee, age 80 of the Sykes Community of Smith County were held on Sunday afternoon, November 29, 1998 at the Union Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church conducted by Bro. Bob Miller. Interment was in the Church Cemetery.
  Mr. Agee died Thursday night, November 26, 1998 at the Carthage General Hospital after suffering from an illness for over the past five years.
  Mr. Agee was a native of New Middleton, TN, the son of the late Hubert Milton Agee and Susie Sunbeam Ashley Agee.   He was married to Emma Frances Gwaltney in 1938. He was a mechanic and operated the Brush Creek Motor Company and Garage from 1958 to 1975 and was the Rural Mail Carrier for the United States Postal Service Brush Creek Post Office for 17 years retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Union Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
  Mr. Agee is survived by his wife, Mrs. Emma Gwaltney Agee of Sykes, TN; daughter, Linda Little and husband, Doug of Crossville, TN; two sons, David Agee of Princeton, Indiana and Jerry Agee and wife, Barbara of Sykes, TN; sister, Mrs. Virginia Hatcher of Maryville, TN.   Mrs. Gaynell Haynes Agee, 70, of Hickman, died Tuesday, December 18th, 2007, at DeKalb Community Hospital.
  Mrs. Agee was born June 10, 1937 in. Stonewall, TN, the daughter of the late Thellie Adell Gibbs and Hubert Lee Haynes. A sister, Evelyn Duncan, preceded in death on September 17, 1998.
  She was married to Jackie Agee on August 6, 1955. A daughter, Ina May Nadine Agee, preceded her in death on September 22, 1967. She was a homemaker and was a long-time member of the Hickman Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School worker and taught Mission Friends for several years.
  Mrs. Agee is survived by her husband of 52 years, Jackie Agee of Hickman, TN; two sons: Virgil (Sherry) Agee of Hickman and Gordon Agee of Hickman, six grandchildren, Justin Agee of Hickman, Sarah (Joshua) Mofield of Hiwassee, Samantha (Matt) Maynard of Brush Creek, Elizabeth Agee, Elizabeth Long and Alyissa Long, all of Hickman; five great-grandchildren, Caleb, Callie and Chloe Mofield of Hiwassee, and Austin and Corey Schaffer of Hickman; a brother, David (Elizabeth) Haynes of Gordonsville; two sisters, Ina Haynes and Tammy Haynes, both of Brush Creek; three nieces, three nephews, four great-nieces and one great-nephew.

  He was born Jan. 3, 1911 in DaKalb County to John Agee and Mary Sandlin Agee.

Agee, Jerry

  Funeral services for Jerry Agee, 46, of Carthage were held Thursday, March 8th, 2007, at Sanderson, Funeral Home Carthage Chapel. Elder Charles Allen G'entry and Elder Stephen Brooks officiated and interment followed in Gordonsville Cemetery.
  He died March 5, 2007, after suffering a fatal heart attack while at Work. at the Dana Corporation in Gordonsville.
Agee was a 1978 graduate of Smith County High School where he was a member of the Pride of the Upper Cumberland Marching Band and played Trumpet. He was a member of the East Carthage Missionary Baptist Church and had been employed with the Dana Corporation at Gordonsville for over 21 years .
  Born  Jerry Lee Agee in Lebanon at the former McFarland Hospital on June 5, 1960, he was one of three children of the late James A. and Lee Ette Webster Agee. A brother, Larry, preceded him in death on March 6, 2005.
  On March 1, 1986, he married the former Nancy Gay Smith of Carthage, who is a 13 year employee at Smith County Health Care Center.
  In additon to his wife of 19 years, surviving are two children. Kay1a Cherry and husband Darin of Hermitage Springs and Zach Agree of Carthage; a sister, Beverly Agee of Gordonsville and one grandson, Elijah Cherry.

  The funeral for Mr. Velvin Agee, 82, were held Friday, May 22, 1998 at the Gordonsville Chapel of Bass Funeral Home. Elder Frank Carr and Elder Junior Dickerson officiated. Interment was in Brush Creek cemetery in Brush Creek, TN.

Agnew, Joseph

  Funeral services for Joseph Marion Agnew, 89, of Alexandria were held February 13, 1998 at the Alexandria United Methodist Church. Rev. Linda Tidrow and Rev. Becky Larson officiated and interment was in Brush Creek Memorial Gardens.
  Mr. Agnew died Wednesday February 11, 1998 at Baptist DeKalb Hospital in Smithville.
  He was born in Grant, TN. His parents were the late Joab Mershon and Lucy Ann Hankins Agnew. He was married September 1, 1934 to Louise Allen, who proceeded him in death. He was a member of the Alexandria United  Methodist Church since 1947 where he had served as Sunday School Superintendent and was the teacher of the Men's Sunday School Class for many years.
  Mr. Agnew is survived by a daughter, Jean (Joe) Malone of Murfreesboro, TN. Two sons: Wendell (Dinah) Agnew of  Shelbyville and Wesley Agnew of Alexandria; one sister: Ada Margaraet Kelly of Laguna Niguel,CA; one brother: Henry Agnew of Carthage, TN: four  grandchildren; Angie Malone Chisholm, Steve Malone, Allen Agnew and Sandy Agnew Soetje and four great grandchildren also survive.

  Ms. Dorothy M. Alcorn, 76, of Gray, TN and formerly of Baxter, TN, passed away on Tuesday, October 31st, 2006, at Johnson City Medical Center, City, TN.
  Ms. Alcorn was born in Richmond, VA, June 7th, 1930, the daughter of the late Leonard V. and Isabell Mae (Adcock) Carroll.
  She was a loving wife; mother and grandmother. She also lived in DeKalb and Smith Counties. She was a member of Central Church of Christ of Johnson City and Double Springs Church of Christ.
She worked as a secretary at Teamsters Local 480 in Nashville, TN., for 20-plus years and was the former president of FCE of Elmwood and Chestnut Mound.
  Ms. Alcorn is survived by daughters, Linda Mae Meeks and husband Jim, of Gray, TN and Marie Ervin and husband Thomas, of Smithville; grandsons Brandon Ervin and Shellie Wilkerson of Smithville, and Raleigh and Cody Meeks of Gray, TN; granddaughter, Emily Lynn Bailey of Johnson City, TN; brother, Ross Carroll and wife, Pam, of Witmore Lake, MI; nephew, Kelly Carroll and wife, Amy, of Novi, MI; and great nephew, Nick Carroll of Novi, MI. She is also survived by numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.
  She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her niece, Jeannine Houtz.
  Funeral services were held at Crest Lawn Funeral Home in Cookeville, Friday, November 3, with Ronald Strong officiating. Interment followed in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery.

  Funeral services for Mrs. Beuna Durham Allen, 78, of Alexandria were held Friday afternoon, April 7, 2000 at the Upper Helton Baptist Church conducted by Bro. Thurmon Seber. Interment followed in Hillview Memorial Cemetery in Alexandria.
  Mrs. Allen died suddenly on Tuesday, April 5, 2000, at her residence. She was a native of DeKalb County, the daughter of the late Creasie Page and William Samson Durham. She was married on July 25, 1938 to Omar Dale Allen and he preceded her in death on December 31, 1999. She was a homemaker and worked at Work Wear Company in Alexandria, for 15 years. She was a member of the Upper Helton Baptist Church.
  Mrs. Allen is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Veda Evelyn and Henry Walker. Son and daughter-in-law, Omrie and Madonna Allen. Four grand­children, Roenia Kay and her husband, David Turner; Mark Allen Walker and his wife, Vicky; Holly Maria Walker and Timothy Corley Allen. Four great grandchildren: Lindsay Kay Turner, Andrew Corley Allen, Daxton Lee Allen, and Hailey Lynnette Walker all of Alexandria. Two brothers: Hillard Durham and Orville Durham both of Hendersonville, TN. Two sisters: Verda Mae Barrette of Lawrenceville, Illinois and Ruth Puckett of Fultondale, Alabama.
  The family asked that memorials be made to the Upper Helton Baptist Church, Building Fund.

  Our people were surprised to hear of the death of Miss Fannie Allen, of this community, which occurred at Texarkanna on Tuesday, Dec. 22. Miss Allen had started on a visit to her brothers in Texas and was taken suddenly ill. J. W. Beshears started for Arkansas as soon as he heard of her sickness, but before he reached her she was dead and buried.

  Graveside services for Jeanna Gill Allen, 78, of Smithville, TN. were held June 1, 2005 at Wilson County Memorial Park with Bro. Michael Hale, officiating and burial following immediately.
  Ms. Allen passed away on May 29, 2005 at NHC-Smithville of an extended illness. She was a longtime resident of Nashville and had lived the, past several years in DeKalb County. She was a member of the Baptist Church and a Veteran of the Army Nurse Corn from 1941-1955. Ms. Allen retired from the, Veterans Hospital with over 40 years of service as a Registered Nurse. After retirement, she worked for Life Care Nursing Home in Donelson and Belcourt Terrace Nursing Home in Nashville.
  She was preceded in death by her parents: Solon Lee and Mary Helen Taylor Gill.
  She is survived by her son, John G. Allen of Liberty; two sisters: Johnnie Cantrell of Lebanon and Robbye Williams of Detroit, MI; niece, Lynn Rask; three nephews: Donald Cantrell, Kenneth Taylor and Tommy Sexton.

Allen, Jimmy

  Memorial services for Mr. Jimmy E. Allen, age 53, were held Saturday, December 2, 2000, at 2 p.m., at Hunter Funeral Home. Mr. Allen passed away Monday, November 27, 2000 at University Medical Center following an automobile accident. A resident of Alexandria, he formerly operated Allen's Gun & Archery, had an associates degree from Draughons Junior College, was a board member of the Old Hickory Lake Archery Club and a State representative for the Archery Shooters Association. He also served with the U.S. Navy in Vietnam.

Allen, Mary

  Funeral services for Mary Magdalene Young Allen, 89, were held September 20th, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Smithville, where she had been a member since 1938: Rev. Bill Robertson and Rev. Mark Bass officiated. Burial followed in Whorton Spriugs Cemetary.
  Ms. Allen died September 17th, 2006, at NHC Healthcare in Smithville from eomplications of Lewy Body Disease. Except for a brief time in Detroit, she was a lifelong resident, of DeKalb County, where she was born on November 8th, 1916. Her parents were the late Charlie and Bertie Turner Young. She was married to Alonzo Allen on February 14, 1937. Before her marriage, Magdalene was a beauty shop owner. Later, she and her husband were owners and operators of Allen Ornamental Nursery, for which she was both a salesperson and a landscape designer.
  Ms. Allen was preceded in death by her husband; Alonzo Allen; and by her parents and two brothers, Austin Young of Hendersonville, TN, and Bernice Young of Memphis. She is survived by her daughter, Polly Payne and her husband Joseph A. Payne, III of Woswell, Georgia; one granddaughter, Katherine Payne Hurst and her husband, Branen Hust of Rossville, Georgia; one great-grandchild, William Payne Hust; four step grandchildren, Laura Payne, Jenny Mangan (Timothy), Joseph Payne, IV (Kim), and Andrea Remke (Patrick); seven step-great-grandchildren, Tyler, Evan and Patrick Mangan, Bailey, Will, and Mae Remke, and Allison Payne. Also surviving area brother , Aaron Young of Elizabethtown, Tn; two sisters, Virgina Gill of Silver Point, and Marie Colvert of Smithville, and two sister-in-law, Evelyn Young of Hendersonville, T and Sofia Young of Memphis.

  Mrs. Allen died October 28, 1998 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville of an extended illness. She was a member of the Dale Ridge Baptist Church and she was a retired worker of the Alexandria Industrial Garment Factory. Her parents were the late Bill and Hettie Allen Trusty. She was preceded in death by her husband Charlie Allen and a daughter, Louise Agee.
  Mrs. Allen is survived by two sons: J.C. Allen of Smithville and Claude Allen of Dale Ridge Community; two daughters Nayomia Nokes of Temperance Hall and Elizabeth Parkerson of Alexandria; four step-children: Joy Faye Carter and Jewell Duke both of Smithville, Nadine Hendrixson of Mt.   Funeral services for Toney Allen, 80, were held Monday, Aug. 6, at Dry Creek Baptist Church.

Mr. Allen died Aug. 5 at Sunshine Rest Home in McMinnville.

  Services for Wade Hampton Allen, 89, were held Jan. 24 at 10 a.m. at Liberty Hill Presbyterian Church, where he had been an active member since early in life. Rev. James W. Patton officiated. Burial was in Talley Cemetery.
Mr. Allen was dead on arrival at DeKelb General Hospital Jan. 22 following a long illness.

  Funeral services for William "Bill" Allen will be held at Prosperity Baptist Church, Friday alternoon at 2 o'clock.
The Rev. J. H. Smothers and the Rev. W. B. Woodall will be in charge of the service and burial will be in the church cemetery.
  Mr. Allen died at McFarland Hospital, April 5, after an illness of three months.
  The was a farmer in the Prosperity community, but sold his farm about six years ago and moved to Nashville to live with his daughters, Misses Ethel and Ellen Allen.
  Survivors, other than his daughters, are two sons, M/Sgt Billy T. Allen, Homestead Air Base.a., and S/Sgt Thomas Allen, Waco, Texas; and four other daughters, Mrs. Ray Smith. Liberty, Mrs. Joe Jennings, Auburntown, Mrs. A. C. Brown, Donelson and Mrs. Charley Roberts, Alexandria; a sister, Mrs. Fred Creacy, Nashville.

Allison, Grady

  Funeral services for Grady Wade Allison, 66, a resident of Cookeville, TN were held Wednesday, August 26, 1998 in the Chapel of Hooper and Huddleston Funeral Home. Bro. Carlos Walker and Bro. Lester Flatt officiated and burial was the veteran section of Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery with full military honors.
  He died Monday, August 24, 1998 at his residence after an extended illness with cancer. He was born October 5, 1931 in DeKalb County to the late Bertie Monroe and Mollie Mae Carter Allison. He was raised during his childhood in Monterey. He met and married his wife, Geneva Ann Pippin Allison in July of 1952. In the mid-60's he received his pilot's licenses. He has since provided numerous others with the opportunity to learn to fly by becoming an airplane pilot instructor. Mr. Allison is also a member of the AOPA, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. He also served in the capacity of a FAA Inspector. He retired from the Army National Guard in October of 1991 with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer Four. He served his country in this capacity for 42 years rounding out his career by serving overseas in Desert Storm. He was also an avid motorcycle enthusiast, a Mason and a Shriner for 43 years and a member and retired Deacon of Eastwood Baptist Church.
  In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons: Mark Allison of Cookeville, Shawn Allison of California and Creill Allison of Nashville; one daughter: Sonya Presley of Cookeville; two grandchildren: Jeremey Wade Morris and Devan Dawn Allison. He was preceeded in death by a granddaughter, Megan Nichole Morris.
  Honorary Pall Bearers were deacons, trustees, pilots and close friends of  Mr. Allison.

Allison, Robert

  Graveside services for Robert Aldon Allison, 86 of Cookeville, were held Sunday, October 9, 2005 with Military Honors at Maxwell Cemetery. Rev. Robert Barton, minister at Union Hill Presbyterian Church, officiated.
Mr. Allison died Thursday, October 6, 2005 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
  He was born May 1, 1919 in Putnam County to the late George and Tennessee Crawford Allison. He retired from McCord. after 33 years of service as a Quality Control Inspector, he served in the U.S. Army during WW II, and was a POW held captive by the German Army for 12 months and 15 days. He was released upon the war's end, receiving two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He was an avid outdoorsman, and liked hunting, fishing and camping. Mr. Allison attended Cookville First United Methodist Church.
  In addition to his parents, he was preceded, in death by his wife, Alberta League Allison (who died October 16, 1983), three brothers: Denver, Doyle and Dallas Allison; and three sisters: Velma Dunavin, Beulah Sullivan and Vallie Kilgore.

Allmon, Rosie

  Funeral services for Mrs. Rosie Jane Starnes Allmon, 85, were held Monday, October 6, 1997 at the First Baptist Church in Alexandria. Officiating the service was Bro. Donald Elmore. Interment was in Gordonsville Cemetery in Gordonsville, Tennessee.
  Mrs. Allmon died Saturday, October 4, 1997 at the Baptist DeKalb Hospital in Smithville.
  Mrs. Allmon was a native of the Long Branch Community of DeKalb County, Tennessee and the daughter of the late Timothy Starnes and Tomzada Moss Starnes. She was married on December 30, 1950 to Calvin Allmon, who preceded her in death on December 13, 1996. She had resided in Brush Creek, Tennessee up until last November when she moved to Richland Retirement Home in Smithville. She was a homemaker and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Alexandria.
  Mrs. Allmon is survived by her daughter, Calvilyn Allmon of Monteagle, Tn.; sister, Mrs. Jerene Hale of Donelson, Tn.; and devoted friend, Betty Lewis of Smithville.

  Funeral services for Dan Overton Alvis, Jr. 79 of Brush Creek, were held Wednesday, July 22, 1998 at the Avant Funeral Home in Alexandria. Bro. Omer Grisham and Bro. Robert Amason officiated and interment was in Brush Creek Cemetery.
  He died Monday, July 20, 1998 at Hendersonville Hospital in Hendersonville Hospital in Hendersonville. He was a native of Brush Creek and the son of the late Dan Overton, Sr. and Johnnie Eva Oakley Alvis. He was a farmer and a long-time dealer in the coal industry. He was married to Willie Holland Davis August of 1939. He was proceeded in death by a son, Danny Thomas Alvis August 25,1991.

  Mrs. Alvis passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2005 at University Medical Center, Lebanon, TN.
  She was born May 8, 1920 in County, TN., the daughter of the late Willie Allie Helmontaller and Thomas Holland Davis. A sister, Tommie Lee Cox, preceded her in death. She was married to Dan Overton Avis in August, 1939 and he preceded her in death on July 20, 1998. Their son, Danny Thomas A1vis preceded them in death on August 25, 1991.
Mrs. Alvis was a Smith County winner in spelling in elementary school and was a 1938 graduate of Gordonsville High School. She served as a teacher in the Smith County School System for six years. She was a United States Postal Employee for over 30 years serving at the Brush Creek Post Office, as  a civil service clerk and becoming Postmaster in 1985 and retiring in 1991.
  Servived by three grandchildren: Mike (Karen) Alvis of Brush Creek; Mark (Jimmie) Alvis of Brush Creek; Vickie Alvis of Nashville, TN.; four great grandchildren: Brittney, Braidan, Jordan, and Ethan Alvis and one step great-grandchild: Matthew Angel.

  Frankie  Elizabeth  Nixon Amonett:   Born October 12, 1917, age 86.  Mrs. Amonett passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2003.  Retired Head Start teacher in DeKalb County, she is preceded in death by husband of 60 years, Grady Wade Amonett; brother, CW Nixon; sister, Mary Lee Nixon Curtis; mother Birdie Reynolds Nixon; and father former State Representative, Robert William Nixon.   Anderson, an 8th grade stu­dent at DeKalb West School, died August 28 in a traffic acci­dent. He was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church.

  Ms. Anderson passed away Sunday, November 25, 2007, at NHC Healthcare in Smithville. She was a charter member of the West Main Baptist Church in Alexandria and the owner of Anderson Funeral Home. She had been in the funeral home business since 1936.

Arkon, Charles

  Funeral services for Charles E. Arkon, 81, were held Friday, April 13th, 2007, at Bond Memorial Chapel in Mt. Juliet, Tn. Graveside services with military honors were held on Saturday, April 14th, 2007, at Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford, KY.
  Mr. Arkon passed away April 10th, 2007. He had a career in the U.S. Military for over 20 years, serving in the Navy as a Command Career Counselor, as well as the Army and the Air Force. He was a Certified Dental Technician and owned his own dental laboratory for over 25 years. He was past Master of Liberty Masonic Lodge #358 and a member of the Clown Unit of Kiva Shrine Temple in Amarillo, TX.
  He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally D. Arkon, on December 17, 2003; and his sister, Marie Woods.
  He is survived by his sons, Chuck (Betty) Arkon of Sparta, TN, Steve (Wendy) Arkon of Carthage, TN and Don (Denise) Arkon of Lebanon, TN; sister, Theanna "Jo" Greathouse of Pt. Pleasant, WV; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

  He died Thursday, April 9, 1998 at Baptist DeKalb Hospital after an extended illness. His parents were the late Herbert and Dorothy Estep Asbury. He was a Baptist, a retired foreman from Jackson State Prison in Michigan, a U.S. Air Force veteran and a veteran of the Korean War.
  He is survived by his wife, Esther Bechtol Schilt Asbury of Smithville, a son, Joey Ashbury of Michigan, two daughters: Gail Cooper of West Virginia and Robin Hatch of Michigan, one step-son, Rich Schilt of Smithville and a step-daughter, Lori Yoder of Smithville, two brothers: Herber Asbury of West Virginia and Jackie Asbury of Florida. Several grandchildren and great­grandchildren also survive.

  Services for George W. Atnip, 82, of Lebanon were held May 2 at 1 p.m. at Nave Funeral Home. Brother Dean Forman officiated. Burial was in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
  Mr. Atnip died May 1 at Humana McFarland Hospital in Lebanon after a short illness.
  A native of DeKalb County, he was the son of the late Tom and Hattie Reader Atnip.
  He was a Jehovah's Witness.

Atnip, Jennifer

  Funeral services for Jennifer "Jenny" Shea Atnip, 27, of Cookeville, will be held today, April 24, at 1 p.m. at Cookeville Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Dr. Charles McCaskey and Rev. Michael Clark will offi­ciate. Burial will follow in Whorton Springs Cemetery in Smithville.
  Miss Atnip died Sunday, April 21, at her home in Cookeville.
She was born Jan. 14, 1975 in Cookeville and was the daughter of Dr. Max and Pattie Guzlas Atnip of Cookeville. She   was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and an Activity Instructor with the Putnam County Board of. Education S.A.C. Program.
  While attending Cookeville High School, Miss Atnip was a Competition Squad Cheerleader. She also competed in and won several beauty pageants in the Upper Cumberland Area.
  Miss Atnip was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Dr. Norman R. Atnip and Anthony T. Guzlas.
  In addition to her parents, she, is survived by two sisters and a brother-in-law, Rebecca Jean  "Becky" and Chris Vincent, Jessica Crystelle "Cryste" Atnip, all of Cookeville; grandmothers Sara Jannette Atnip of Smithville and June Guzlas of Algood; several aunts, uncles and cousins: Dr. Robert and Guylene Atnip, Lisa & Greg Tramel, Tara Jane Atnip, Robert Roy Atnip, Jr., and Jared Scott Atnip all of Smithville; Dennis, Karen and Tammy Guzlas all of Silver Point; Debbie and Tim Cribb of Elgin, IL; Ronald and Renee Guzlas, Eric Guzlas and Bethany and Chris Blount of Gulf Shores AL; Terry and Kathy Guzlas, Jeremy and Anthony Guzlas of Glendale Heights, IL.

  Mrs. Atnip died April 17 at DeKalb General Hospital following an extended illness.
  A native of DeKalb County, she was the daughter of the late George and Ella Colwell Summers.
  She was a Methodist.
  Her husband was the late Willie Atnip.
  She is survived by three sons, T. J. Atnip of Smithville, Junior Atnip of Liberty and Jimmy Atnip of Watertown; three daughters, Dean Thomason of Smithville, Vada Thomas of Dowelltown and Lorehe Patton of Hermitage; a sister, Ova Redmon of Smithville; 33 grandchildren; 64 great grandchildren and 17 great great grandchildren.

Atnip, Norman

  Funeral services for Dr. Nor­man Roy Atnip, 86, of Smithville, were held Saturday, July 21 at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home in Smithville. Masonic services were held at 7 p.m. Friday, July 20, at the funeral home.
  Dr. Atnip died Wednesday, July 18, at his home after an ex­tended illness. He was born April 11, 1915 in DeKalb County to the late David J. and Lassie Mai McGee Atnip.
  Dr. Atnip was a much-beloved, retired Doctor of Chiropractic who graduated in 1937 from the National University of Health Sciences (formerly the National College of Chiropractic, Chica­go, Illinois) and began his prac­tice in Smithville in 1939. He was a member of both the Amer­ican Legion and Veterans of For­eign Wars. He served as a past president of the Tennessee Chiro­practic Association and the Fed­eration of Tennessee Chiroprac­tors. He was a past president of the Exchange Club of Smithville and a past president of the Smithville Lions Club.
  Dr. Atnip was a past president and director of the Smithville Ju­nior Chamber of Commerce and a past director of the National Chiropractic Association and the American Chiropractic Associa­tion. He also served on the board of directors of Center Hill Broad­casting (WJLE Radio) and was a founding director of Citizen's Bank of Smithville.
  Dr. Atnip was a member of the National College of Chiropractic Alumni Association and served as Team Physician for many years for the DeKalb County High School athletic teams.
  Dr. Atnip was a U.S. Navy vet­eran serving in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters of WWII. He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Master Mason and an elder in the Smithville Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
  He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sara Jannette Cantrell Atnip. In addition to his wife, his family includes two sons and daughters-in-law: Dr. Robert Roy and Guylene Atnip of Smithville and Dr. N. Max and Patti Atnip of Cookeville.
  He is survived by seven grand­children: Lisa Tramel and Tara Atnip, both of Smithville, Robert Atnip, Jr. of Shelbyville, Jared Atnip of Panama City, Florida and Rebecca Vincent and Jen­nifer and Cryste Atnip, all of Cookeville; and two great-grand­children, Chase and Caleb Tramel of Smithville.
  Also surviving is one sister, Frances Pendarvis of Livingston.
  In addition to his parents, Dr. Atnip was preceded in death by his sister, Marguerite Puckett and two brothers, Dr. Eric C. Atnip and David J. Atnip, Jr.
  Active pallbearers were Wayne Atnip, Barry Atnip, Dr. Alan Atnip, David Martin, Billy Mar­tin, and David Wytt Davis.
  He was buried with military honors in Whorton Springs Cemetery in Smithville. Bros. Bobby Colvert and Archie King officiated. Dr. N. Max Atnip de­livered the eulogy.

Avant, James

  Funeral services for Mr. James E. Avant, 88, of Alexandria, were held on Tuesday afternoon, February 20, 2001, conducted by Bro. David Davis, Bro. Bobby Colvert, and Bro. Donald Elmore. Interment was in Hillview Memorial Cemetery in Alexandria. Mr. Avant died Sunday morning, February 18, 2001 at NHC Health Care in Smithville.
  Mr. Avant was born in Dowelltown, the son of the late Nolia Hendrickson and William Jefferson Avant. James has lived in Alexandria since a teenager, helping his father in his business, more so in the family funeral home operation, in which he remained active until illness four years ago, prevented him from continuing. He was class president of the 1931 graduating class of Turner M. Lawrence High School in Alexandria. James was a veteran of World War II. He was Married to Sarah Ella Bass on September 20, 1935. He was a member of the Alexandria United Methodist Church.
  Mr. Avant was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard and Clay Avant.
  Survivors of Mr. Avant include: his wife of 65 years, Sarah Bass Avant; son, Edward Wayne Avant of Birmingham, AL.; two granddaughters, Lori and her husband, Taney Brazeal, Tani and her husband, William Self, all of Birmingham, AL.; and three great-grandchildren, Tab, Slater, and Sarah Grace Brazeal.

  Funeral services for Sarah Bass Avant, 94, of Alexandria, TN were held Thursday, March 3, 2005 at Avant Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Colvert and Bro. Curt Wagoner officiating and burial in Hill View Memorial Cemetery.
  Mrs. Avant passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at DeKalb Hospital. She and her husband, James, operated the family funeral home operation and they remained active until illness eight years ago prevented them from continuing. She had been a member of First Baptist Church-Alexandria since 1924 and at the time of her death was the oldest living member.
  She was preceded in death by her parents: Lannis Archie and Fannie Oakley Bass and husband, James E. Avant.
  She is survived by her son, Edward Wayne Avant; two granddaughters: Lori Brazeal and husband, Taney, and Tani Self and husband, William all of Birmingham, AL; three great-grandchildren: Tab, Slater and Sarah Grace Brazeal and sisters: Martha Banks and Mildred Bass both of Dowelltown.
