Rev. Joseph Banks was a Methodist Minister. His wife, Jane, belonged to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and actively support it.

Josephs residence was "on the waters of Dry Creek". At the time of his death he had 35 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Joseph was a Trustee of Dekalb County from 1860 - 62 and a member of the commission that selected the location for the county seat.

We do not have a date of death for Jane: but reading the census information would indicate she had died between the 1870 census and the 1880 census, Jane was said to be deeply involved in the "Banks Cumberland Presbyterian Church that was about 10 or 12 miles south of Smithville in Dekalb County, Tennessee.

Both Joseph and Jane were buried in the Banks Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
