Ray Gibbs
1900-1960
Freddie Ray Gibbs was the son of Eugene G and Noah Vanatta Gibbs. He
was born in 1900 and died on August 13, 1960 in Davidson Co., TN, but
resided in DeKalb Co., TN.
He married Lillian Lee Smith, daughter of William P. Smith and Maud
Williams, and after 1930 they divorced. Lillian was born on March 7,
1896 in DeKalb Co., TN and died on February 3, 1939. She was buried in
Liberty, DeKalb Co., TN, cemetery name not given.
Only child of Ray and Lillian was: Georgia (b. 1923, buried in next grave to the right here) who is
found in 1940, after the death of her mother, living with her
grandfather, Bill Smith, and Maud Smith. The census states that Georgia
was living in the same house in 1935, meaning the divorce of Ray and
Lillian occurred between the time of the 1930 census and 1935. Georgia married Roy Wilson Blythe.
It appears that Ray Gibbs enlisted for WWII on September 16, 1942, listed as
born in 1900 in TN, widowed, with no dependents, and using the name
"Fredie R. Gibbs".
