McAdoo was the son of David Jenkins (1820) and Elizabeth Vanatta (1826) who were living in Wilson Co., TN in 1860. In the 1860 census McAdoo is age 8. In 1870 the family is in Alexandria, District 1, DeKalb Co., TN, his father is missing, assumed dead, and "McAdew" is listed as age 14. In 1880 McAdoo is age 25 and still  living with his mother and siblings.

He was the brother of Doctor W. Jenkins, also buried here. It appears that "D L Jenkins" buried beside him with their headstones almost touching might have also been his brother who died as a small child. Another brother, James Washington Jenkins (June 27, 1862-June 21, 1945), died in DeKalb Co., TN, and his death certificate gives the maiden surname of  David Jenkins' wife. Another brother had a death certificate confirming the parents' names: Obediah D. Jenkins (June 19, 1848-January 19, 1916). There are no marriage records still existing as early as David and Elizabeth married (in the 1840's). There is no county record of McAdoo having married.

McAdoo's siblings were: Doctor Wyatt (1844) buried here, William M. (1845), Obediah (1848) buried here, Mary Jane (1856), Sarah Elizabeth (1856) burried here, Hannah/Henry??? (1858), James Washington (1862) buried here, and possibly D. L. (b. 1850-d. 1858) buried here.
