Fantley Vanatta September
22, 1871-March 31, 1910
Fantley was the son of John and Katharine Measles Vanatta [also buried
here]. He married Lavania Bass (b. Sept. 1880) on October 4, 1894 in
DeKalb Co, TN. They had one child, Nannie Vanatta (b. May, 1898).
After 1900, Nannie moved to Carrollton, GA and died there. Fantley's
obituary mentions a son named Dixie, but Dixie is not found elsewhere
later. Fantley's death certificate states he was still married; so his
wife died after him, yet she is not found in the 1910 or later censuses
nor in death records.
Fantley's
obituary, published on April 7, 1910 in the Smithville Review, is in
the obituaries section transcribed by Earl France located on this
DeKalb Co., TNGenWeb site. His birth year is different in every
census, and also his death certificate states he was 42 in 1910, being
an earlier birth than any other record. This person and his daughter
and wife are very hard to trace.
