Thomas John Roberts was the son of William W. (b. abt. 1810) and Martha
P. (Robinson) Roberts; parents married in VA; the father buried here. See page
for W[illiam] W. Roberts. Thomas died in District 1, DeKalb Co., TN. Less
Roberts, his son and also buried here, was the informant for his death
certificate. Thomas married Samantha Jane "Jennie" Jenkins on October
29, 1874 in DeKalb Co., TN.
Samantha Jane Jenkins was the daughter of Obediah "Obie" (b. abt. 1826)
and Sarah (Griffith) Jenkins. Samantha died in Alexandria,
DeKalb Co., TN.
NOTE:
The tombstone for Samantha has her birth date as August 23 1856, but
her death certificate with the information given by her son, Less
Roberts, gives her birth date as either August 23 or 28, but it also
looks like it was written over on the copy. Her age of 79 yrs 11 mos.
10 days confirms that August 23 was the intended birh date on the death
certificate. Also her mother was given as Miss Jones, but Obediah
didn’t marry Mahala Jones until December 17, 1857 in DeKalb Co, TN, the
next year after Samantha was born. Obediah married Sarah Griffith
on July 23, 1850 in DeKalb Co, TN; so, Sarah Griffith was her mother.
Their children were:
(1) Less "Lessie" (b. 1877) buried here
(2) William (b. abt. 1878)
(3) Thomas (b. abt. 1879)
(4) John C. (b. 1882) buried here
