Martha was the daughter of William and Sophia Dale Givan. She was born November 6, 1820. On September 19, 1839, she married James Dillard Grandstaff, son of Isaac Grandstaff. Martha and Dillard had three daughters, Mary Ann, born November 18, 1840; Sophia Jane, born November 16, 1842; and Nancy Elizabeth, born March 12, 1844. They lived on a farm at the Fork of the Pike. On Jume 5, 1844, Dillard died of a chill at 23 years old. Martha lived a widow until her death June 20, 1893. She was buried beside her husband in the Dale (Givan) Cemetery on the Givan farm.
