Robert Norman Vernon was born in NC August 7, 1855, his parents are Obadiah Vernon and Eliza (Goolsby) Vernon - he married Alice Jeanette Janette Williams. 24 December 1874 at Elizabeth Methodist Church - minister M. D. Clayborn and Rev. Edgar Williams. He was 70 years, three months, and 18 days old at his death. He professed relegion about 53 years ago and joined the Elizabeth Methodist Episcopal Church and remained a faithful member of same until death. Eight children were born to Robert and his wife - three of whom preceeded their father to the better land. Those deceased are; Nancy Jane, who died in infancy; James Williams. who died October 26, 1908; and Mrs. Flora Alice Edwards, who died Decembeer 25, 1909. The surviving children are two daughters; Mrs. Bulah Mae Edwards, and Mrs. Zora Dollie Anderson, and three sons, Robert Thomas, George Bernice, and Horace. His faithful companion still survivors.

He is survived also by three brother and sisters, 17 grandchildren, one grea-grandchild, and many other relatives and friends. Bro. Vernon was a licensed exhorter in the Methodist Church and was untiring in service for his Master. While yet a young man he became a member of the Good Templars, a temperance organication, and fought heroicly for the suppression of the traffic in strong drink.

Bro. Vernon was exceptionally attentive to the sick. In every respect our departed friend showed himself a real man, being an affectionate father, an exemplary husband, a loyal Christain, a good citizen and a friend to everyone in need.

His work on eaarth is done and he has served his generation well; and we confidently expect to meet him again in that other and better world where there is no more death.

The funeral services were conducted by his pastor, Rev. M.D. Clayborn, and Rev Edgar Williams; in the Elizabeth Methodist Church, and his body laid to rest in the nearby cemetery to await the resurrection of the just.
