The Crockett Times Alamo, Tenn. Thursday, July 4, 1946 Harrell Smothers Harrel Smothers, 25 year old son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Smothers, passed away June 30 in a Veterans hospital in California. The funeral services and burial were held in California. Harrel was born in Crockett Mills and spent his early childhood in Alamo, Tenn. Later he moved with his parents to Jackson, Tenn., where he grew to manhood and entered the service of his country, serving as a bombadier in the Air Corps. He spent eighteen months in foreign service and was wounded in a crash while patroling the Philippines. He received medals for Marksmanship and Good Conduct. He is survived by three brothers, Doyle of Tupelo, Miss., his twin, Darrel of Lansing, Mich., and Jack of Moran, Wyo. He was the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Smothers of Alamo, Tenn., and Mr. and Mrs. Newt Rice of Crockett Mills. |
