Tom Smith Obituary

Tom Smith, 69, Alamo Constable, was fatally injured by an automobile near Evansville, Ind., Thursday night. He had accompanied Sheriff Billy Hopper to Indiana to return a prisoner here. The Sheriff and Mr. Smith had just stepped out of their parked car and was crossing the highway when struck by the other vehicle. He died several hours later in an Evansville hospital.

Mr. Smith had been a Constable and Deputy Sheriff for many years and had many friends in Alamo and throughout the county. He was a member of the Baptist Church.

He leaves three sons, Gene Smith of Tremont, Miss.; Leslie Smith of Washington and Eldon Smith of Virginia, and two daughters, Mrs. Posie Howell of Dyersburg and Mrs. Agnes Craiglow of Alamo.

The remains were brought to the home of his daughter here and services were held at the Baptist Church Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.

Burial in Dyersburg.
