"R.L. Rosamon's Funeral Services Held At Church Here

Funeral services for R.L. Rosamond, 76, who died at Memorial Hospital Sunday night after being struck by an automobile at the corner of Hays and Lexington, were held this afternoon at 1 o'clock from Hays Avenue Methodist Church by the Rev. Harry Estes of Milan. Burial was in the Rosamond Cemetery at Gadsden.

Mr. Rosamond was born in Gadsden and lived there about 45 years, being a farmer and grist mill operator. He moved to Dyer county thereafter and came to Jackson six years ago, when he retired, and was making his home with a daughter, Mrs. Ida Craig, 266 Jackson Street.

He was a member of the Gadsden Baptist Church.

Surviving besides his daughter, Mrs. Craig, are a son, H.L. Rosamond of Blytheville, Ark,. three other daughters, Mrs. J.H. Ballentine of Flint, Mich., Mrs. C.N. Miller of Granite City, Ill., and Mrs. E.E. Porter of Alton, Ill.; two brorhers, John Rosamond and Jim Rosamond of Humboldt, a sister, Mrs. David P. Jackson of Melrose, New Mexico; five granddaughters and two grandsons.

Pallbearers were J.J.Taylor, Homer Morgan, R.S. Newman, J.A. Blackwell, E.L. Cannon and G.M. Payton."

Elderly Man Killed By Auto In Jackson

Jackson's first 1947 traffic fatality had been chalked up Monday with the death of R. L. Rosamond, 76, who died at Memorial Hospital at 10:30 Sunday night after being struck by an automobile two hours earlier.

The accident occurred at an intersection after the driver of the car, identified by Police Chief Robert Mainord as Boyd Armstrong, 23, of Jackson, went ahead at the green light traffic signal.

Chief Mainord said Armstrong had the car in low gear and that evidence indicated Mr. Rosamond stepped into its path.

Mr. Rosamond was taken to Memorial Hospital in a Griffin ambulance. He suffered head injuries and a broken arm. The victim lived with his daughter and was on his way to attend church when the accident occurred.

Chief Mainord said Armstrong had been released under bond and hearing in the case is scheduled Wednesday morning in police court.

Mr. Rosamond, a retired farmer, formerly lived in Crockett County. He moved here several years ago.

In addition to his daughter, he leaves a son, Henry Rosamond of Blytheville, Ark.; three other daughters, Mrs. E. E. Porter of Alton, Ill., Mrs. Charles Miller of Grant City, Ill., and Mrs. Jimmy Ballentine of Flint, Mich., and two brothers, Jim and John Rosamond of Humboldt.
