Dr. Marion S. Read Died Suddenly
Prominent Alamo Dentist Suffers Heart Attack

Dr. Marion S. Read, 67, died Thursday night at his home in Alamo of a heart attack. He had been ill for only a few days, and his death came as a great shock to the entire town and community.

Dr. Read was one of the leading men of the dental profession in this section and had practiced in Alamo for the past 22 years. He was born and reared here but after graduating from Vanderbilt he first began practicing at Greenfield, Tenn., later moving to Little Rock, Ark. He loved his work dearly and had a large practice throughout this county.

He was a public spirited citizen and president of the first active Chamber of Commerce organized here. He was a member of the Methodist church, Al Chymia Temple of the Shrine in Memphis, and was a charter member of the Alamo Rotary Club.

Dr. Read was a son of the late Mr. And Mrs. Edd Read, pioneer citizens of this county. His widow, Mrs. Docia Capel Read; two brothers, Dan Read and Lee Read, of Glendale, Calif.; and two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Argo of Marshall, Ark., and Mrs. W. P. Chalmers of Jacksonville, Fla., survive.

Dr. Read will be missed in Alamo and the county, not only as a skilled dentist, but as an enterprising citizen and as a genial good fellow who numbered his friends by his acquaintances.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Alamo Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. W. M. O'Donnell, pastor, in charge. Rev. E. L. Robinson, of Mayfield, Ky., former pastor here delivered the funeral oration. Assisting in the services were Rev. R. A. Wood, of Huntingdon, former pastor, and Rev. Cooley of LaGrange, former pastor of the circuit.

Burial was in Alamo cemetery.

Evans & Lasiter Funeral Home in charge.

Those from out of town who attended the funeral of Dr. M. S. Read Saturday were: Mr. And Mrs. Ed Hysmith and Mrs. Don McGlathery of Cotton Plant, Ark.; Misses Vernie Read, Lois Laman, Willie Dean, Mesdames Jessie Dean, Margaret McCadden and G. W. Ball, Messrs. Marion Argo, Jesse Dean, Wood Massey, Mr. And Mrs. Richard Holliday, all of Memphis; Mr. And Mrs. Morris and Mr. Clement of Brazil; Mrs. E. G. McLean, Rutherford; Mr. And Mrs. J. D. Allen, Dr. Sam T. Parker and son, and Mr. Frazier Smothers of Jackson; Mrs. Mae Holliday and Barney Hummel, Dresden; Rev. and Mrs. W. F. Colley, LeGrange; Rev. Wood, Huntingdon, and Rev. E. L. Robinson, Mayfield, Ky.
